If Sheedy was to finish as our coach, do we promote an Essendon person ie GOD, Harvey etc or do we look outside and bring in some fresh, non Essendon thoughts?

I voted for Outside

Personally I'd go outside. A lot of people seem to think Harvs or G'OD are a forgone conclusion, but we will definately be interviewing a lot of people when the time comes and the Longmire's and Cresswell's ect will definately be in the mix
I wouldn't have thought we'd go with Cresswell, very unlikely.

Longmire will probably be coaching the Roos by then. ;)

Maybe, they were just examples. There are a lot of very good assistants out there and we need to look at everyone. Like the old board who brought in Sheeds they should think outside the box a little and just go with their gut feelings, whether it's inside or outside the club.

I doubt this would be a popular choice, and i think Longmire also would be a good choice but i would be very intersted in Chris Bond.

I have heard his thoughts many times and he speaks a lot of sense, he has worked at different clubs and under different coaches.

He also was one of those players that was not as naturally gifted as others, but worked very hard at his game and became a very good league player.

I think he would be very high in our considerations IF Sheeds were to not coach us any more

How weird would it be to have a different coach......

Exactly.
Sheeds appointment was criticised by many when it happened.
The board on the other hand saw him as an innovator and ahead of his time when they employed him, which he was.

This is the reason why i am starting to think that Sheeds has lost the 'edge' he had.

He was light years ahead in tactics etc back in the day, but in this day and age of full on professionalism, those 'edges' are almost gone now.

I was born in '81, it would be very wierd

I'm an old bas**rd and was born in 64.
So i have seen us with other coaches, but still Sheeds IS Essendon as we all know it now and was really the making of us as a modern day club.

This is why when ever Sheeds does go, he will be treated with the respect he deserves, and has earnt, and not sacked or any "mutal agreements" made mid contract.

He either coaches his term or he doesn't coach.

He deserves at least that much

Sheeds made us the power we have been since the 80's with innovative thinking and marketing. If his time was to finish would like to see an outside person come in with fresh thoughts and ideas.

Would like to see Sheedy stay at essendon in football management or marketing role when this time happens.

Knights, Liberatore and Royal would be looked at for sure.

Swervyn, if we're having a shocker by mid term, I would suggest out the door Sheeds, and he may even volunteer too. Roos did pretty well when he stepped up as I recall.

I was wondering how long it would take for stander to sniff out a Sheeds thread :D

That won't happen mate, as Sheeds is not the give up type nor would Essendon treat him that way.

Whats your vote on the poll?

Do you have any suggestions as to who you would like to see replace him, if it was to happen after his current contract?

Swervyn, I like the West Coast model, Worsfold coming back to the fold ( excuse pun ) which leads me to Dimma and Harvs as my favoured replacements for next year, if we have a poor one. But, the way things are going now, Sheedy is still a chance, just like Bradley is a chance of being a decent footballer. K.Walsh and K.Bradley- historically frightening.

Outside. Preferably.

We don't need the same message from a Sheedy protege. That wouldn't really be a change.

If given the choice, no way would Horse choose Norf over us. A club like us will probably be in a position to pick up the single best candidate in 7 months time.

I'd be worried about a bloke who missed out on senior jobs when people like Peter Rhode and the like got a crack ahead of him.

I've no problem with going outside the club. It's pretty damn hard to predict who might be a good coach.

I don't want Chris Bond though, he looks too much like an umpire.

Simple. Best person for the job. If that is Longmire or if that is GOD or Harvs... It's up to the board etc to decide who has the best credentials for the job. SHouldnt matter where they are from

In all fairness to Bondy, Rhode was almost handpicked by the team after the Wallace debacle. Aside from that, he was all they could afford at the time...shy, lack of discipline and barely an aggressive streak tactfully. Id actually nominate Voss if he wasnt fresh out of the game....Im sure his coaching ability would be as courageous and his application as a footballer.

That's not the only job Bond has gone for or been linked to...it was just one example.
