I didn't like the farewell. Thought that was actually really bad.

Mine would be:

Parasite
Joker
Pain and glory
Midsommer
Jojo Rabbit
Birds of passage
Dogman
Once upon a time in Hollywood
By the grace of god
The report

I didn't see marriage story or the lighthouse. Still haven't seen little women either.

Good year for foreign films but not so much mainstream imo
Which Foreign films ? .....I'm an avid watcher & thought the year was poor ....a lot of american copies, and Spain put out some rubbish

My Top Films
Alita - Battle Angel
Knives Out
Parasite
Ad-Astra
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Ready or Not
The Room (French)
Joker

That's all I got ...a few I haven't seen yet ....but not a good year

Always going to be difficult to follow 2018 - one of the best years of cinema in recent history

If you didn't see Dolor y gloria or The Lighthouse, they're highly recommended. Monos, Bacurau and Piranhas are also good.

Upcoming 2019 I'm waiting for/looking forward to:

Uncut Gems (outstanding Soundtrack by Daniel Lopatin AKA Oneohtrix Point Never)
Martin Eden
Corpus Christ
J'accuse 'An Officer and a Spy'
Waves
A Hidden Life
A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood
Forest of Love

Really appreciate .....love foreign films, their stories can be so much better than Americans .....and no smaltzy endings

Parasite (Korea)
Pain and glory (Spain I think)

Portrait of a lady on fire (French). Might have to watch this again. Pretty good though.

Indeed. Independent films are often not intended for the masses but rather niche audiences & are less about a conventional story and more about meaning or the director's personal vision, making them more memorable.

Lol neither am I. I still don't understand a lot of things. I think this movie polarised almost every viewer and my thoughts were pretty simplistic and common.

I've forgotten a bit but I thought she was trafficked or sold and the greenhouses were a metaphor for all the women he did this too. Has some holes in it though.

Sounds on the money to me.

I've seen a total of 2 Korean movies in the last few years.
Do they all end in stabbings? lmao

I thought it was decent, but it bored me a bit. Dialogue is the best feature of his movies and it was just a bit meh in this one. Apart from the end there weren't any gripping scenes either.

I just hyped it too much.

Another movie I'm incredibly hyped for is Joker. Joaquin phoenix is probably my favourite actor. Trailer looks epic
I just watched once upon a time in Hollywood, I remembered this post when I started.

I really enjoyed it, but get what you’re saying. It’s a slow burn until the ending, where it does a 180 from the rest of the film.

At about 50 minutes in I figured it was going to be like that, so just enjoyed it for what it was. It will a long time before I rewatch it though, if ever.

Wasn’t expecting that ending either, Damien Barrett take note.

I reckon i'm going to need to watch it again. Inglorious Basterds gets better over time. I thought I must have hyped it too much but tbh I hyped up Joker more and that probably exceeded my expectations.

Still think Jojo Rabbit is the best new movie out this summer.

I see Tommy Doedee is a bit of a movie buff who attends the cinema on his own! Maybe i'll bump into him one day.

Also didn't think there were a lot of great films in 2019, but was pleasantly surprised with "Kingdom" which I saw on a flight late in the year. It's about the Warring states period of Chinese history made in Japanese (which sounds like it shouldn't work at all), but it's based on a manga of the same name - the source material is excellent and worth a look.

Probably why i didn’t watch it .... some of those historical dramas don’t work for me ....I’ll have a look & thanks 🙏

Watched a few good movies on the plane recently.
Once upon a time in Hollywood.
&
Winston

So no Bond fans here.

But how did Get Smart not get a sequel
Loved Daniel Craig as Bond ....the first two films were rippers & back to basics
  • Casino Royale (2006)
  • Quantum of Solace (2008)
NO-ONE was able to replace Don Adams

Was this a slow burn as reported .....or a typical Tarantino movie .....Django still my favourite
Difficult to describe. It’s entertaining but there’s a sense that the movie isn’t going anywhere. You see the main characters at the start, then they separate and it’s essentially a day in their life. Then it loosely ties together at the end with an over the top ending.
