What........why?

One of the large newspaper moguls sent a letter with some legal threats about Big Footy reproducing their content.

Haha about time, I could never understand why they went after all the small fansites and not a big one like BF.

If you guys see evidence of them stealing from us, put up some links. Half the sport journo's cut and paste straight out of bigfooty.

I can understand if the site has a real legal issue, but 90% of sites just state to make sure you give their link when using their website as a source.

Seems like another typically irrational move from BigFooty.

Did you read what I posted? There is a real legal issue, I've read a copy of the letter sent asking for the newspapers content to be removed.

I know and I'm saying that 90% of OTHER SITES have something stating that it is ok to use their site and articles as long as you give credit. I don't understand why 1 site disliking it suddenly turns into EVERY single one being there abouts the same?

Like it or not this is the rule, and it's come down from the Big Internet Group owners so effects other sites like Big Soccer this is not just a bigfooty rule.

Can't you just make it effective for AFL related articles :D?

I'm sure a gaming website like IGN aren't going to sue a small(in comparison) football website because they quoted an article of theirs.

Because the 90% of sites you are talking about are small sites who simply are grateful to have publicity. The bigger sites who also happen to be the ones that waive around the legal threats do not have anything stating that. Far too often people copy and paste stuff with no links and no acknowledgement of the author.

Surely it is easier to have one acceptable standard?

What do these new 'rules' really do to stop that?

According to the 'rules' you still have to give a link (Acknowledgement) the only difference now is that we can't post a full story.

What is the real difference? Just seems stupid to now disallow full articles because some people won't acknowledge the real source.

I know you are obsessed with copying and pasting 5 articles about the same topic but I don't see the problem in pasting a paragraph with a link??

Takes up less space as well and makes things a lot easier to read without having to scroll past crap.

Yes I am 'obsessed' with it.

But then again what makes it so wrong to have it? Less clicks, often better format, etc.

The newspaper are arguing that copyright infringement is indefensible because bigfooty are reproducing such substantial portions of the articles and effectively acting as a substitute and in competition with their websites.

HBK the fact is they have a case and it's a simple change of policy to make. Sure there's nothing wrong with posting the full articles besides legal issues (and it's annoying when someone quotes whole text for just one line). Just have to accept it I'm afraid.

Yes which means that people have to go to the other website and thus they get more visitors, which means more advertising revenue. Sure it's not money for you or I but surely the basic principles behind it were easier enough to figure out.

I knew straight away why this new rule had come in. Had to happen eventually. Some of these big media mogul website's profit margins must be suffering massive blows!!!;)

p.s. do we need to report 'full article' posting now?
