I just noticed for a guy who's floated around the league a little bit, he seems to end up at the right team! For example...

Western Bulldogs

1997: 3rd
1998: 3rd
1999: 6th

Melbourne Demons

2000: 2nd
2001: DNP a single game...So I'm not including this season to suit my arguement.
2002: 6th

St-Kilda Saints

2003: 11th...although we won 11 games outta 22 that year, so thats a 50% winning record...not bad for the worst of his career
2004: 3rd
2005: 3rd

Pretty nice career so far! Lets hope he can top it off with the ultimate prize.

Powelly had a bad run with OP.

Justified in not counting that year.

He didn't contribute to Melbourne 2001 so cannot be blamed for their poor showing that year (the reverse may actually be indicated i.e. because he didn't play Melbourne struggled)

Funny thing is St Kilda were doing poorly early 2005 until Powell started to get regular games - then won 9 of the next 10.

I can't say for sure in 2001 because I'm struggling to remember that horrible season, but I reckon Melbourne definetly missed him (and to a lesser extent, Woewoden) in 2003 where they reached the peak (or is that bottom?) of there softness because he was such a great ball getter. He does make his teammates better!
