According to Swans website:

Quote:
- Swans should be up by 40 - missing set goals
- Hall and Davis on fire
- Buchanan has hurt his shoulder - recieved two big bumps. Is trying to shake it off and is telling the trainers to leave him alone but in Jeffs opinion he should go off and it is a bit worrying
- Richards - dont know if I got this right - is playing on Gehrig and is playing really really well.

From the Swans website

Game Notes:

-Obviously the Saints have come back (thanks Captain Obvious Jeff)
- Extensive notes are being taken by Erin and Jeff
- Buchanan went off - should be fine apparently.
- Schneider goal was a set shot from outside 50

From Saintsational:

Goal kickers for us this qtr. Watts 2, Riewoldt 1 (from 30 mts. out almost directly in front, but it went straight through the middle), Murray 1 & Lenny 1. Apparently that was a pretty good goal. Hall has been pretty well held by Maguire this qtr & Schwarze took a good mark over the pack. Gehrig is playing CHF & starting to get a few touches. There is no wind to speak of, so it would appear that we're actually starting to get a bit of a run on. No word yet on who bumped Buchanan twice & injured his shoulder. Don't think it was Lenny as he would have cleaned him up the first time!:)

From Swans site:

THREE QUARTER TIME

Saints 8.8.56
Swans 8.18.66

- Inaccuracy - @@@@ house goal kicking... mainly from Davis and Goodes
- Good Pressure from forwards
-Davis 3 goals 4
-Goodes missed 1
-Schneider missed 1
-Super Ted is killing Gehrig
-Buchanan - hes not playing second half
-Chambers is second ruck - Doyle is playing at full forward. So its looking likely that he will be the 2nd ruckman.

BOG - Davis and Richards (Jeffs opinion)

From Saintsational:

Ok. Goals that qtr. to Lenny (that's 2 now) Dal Santo & Powell. No one is really grabbing the game by the throat, but we are tackling hard & doing a few good things. Montanga is playing ok, Milne playing mainly in the midfield & Ball is doing well. Max played on Hall that qtr. & did very well. Ackland & Blake have been doing all the ruck work & Hammill came on & is doing his normal job. Mixing & matching & bumping his way through the packs. Watts just missed holding on to a great mark. 2nd qtr. has been the best so far though, although we have stayed level with them in the 3rd.

From the Swans site:

Yeah Jeff said the play through the midfield is outstanding - and our general play and forward pressure is killing the Saints.
Buchanan is a worry - a first I got reports he was alright but now it looks pretty serious. Fingers and toes that hes being rested as a precaution and that its not a serious injury.

From Swans site:

FULL TIME

Swans 12.19.91
Saints 11.8.74

Super Ted - has a leg injury - looks pretty bad. Suspected hamstring tear/strain
Goodes was looking good
Buchanan didnt play at all in the second half
and "Saint Kilda played like crap" - Jeffs
Schneider's happy (hahaha - that was for me)
BOG - Richards, Goodes, Davis and J. Bolton (Jeff's 4)

From Saintsational (Snoopygirl):

Ok goals that qtr. were 2 for Milne & 1 to Montanga. Riewoldt didn't play the 2nd half, & X. Clarke & Watts were off at the end. Hammill stayed out there for the whole 2nd half. The ball didn't really get to Gehrig much so not sure how Super Ted could have been "killing" him. There was a bit of pushing & shoving going on between them though. Murray is still not up to the level required to become a regular. Delivery into the forward line was abysmal & seemed to be no system coming out of the midfield, whilst the backline was always under pressure. Most importantly NO INJURIES.

Many thanks to Rickabee for providing us with these updates & I hope I've done them justice.

Saints down to Swans in Newcastle
5:13:57 PM Sat 18 March, 2006
Karen Collins

The Saints have completed the practice match component of their pre-season without managing a win after going down to Sydney by 17 points in Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

But is St Kilda coach Grant Thomas worried? Not in the least.

Quizzed after the match about the Saints' winless pre-season, Thomas replied: "I am not the slightest bit concerned at all."

"Sydney played very well and could have got an unassailable lead early but didn't finish off their shots and from there we just clawed our way back into the game," he said.

The premiers ended their five-game losing streak to run out 12.19 (91) to 11.8 (74) winners for a confidence boost heading into round one against Essendon at Telstra Dome.

The Swans conceded a minor score before dominating the opening term with 12 scoring shots to two, however, wasteful kicking let them down.

Davis (10 kicks), O'Keefe and Hall caused headaches for the Saints defenders, Jude Bolton and Darren Jolly dominated in the middle while Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Ted Richards stifled Nick Riewoldt and Fraser Gehrig.

Davis registered the first goal of the game and could have had another four by quarter time, O'Keefe soccered a beauty off the ground from 35-meters out on the angle to thrill the small crowd before Hall increased the lead to 3.9 (27) to 0.2 (2).

Riewoldt shrugged off last week's woes in front of goal by polishing off a 40-metre effort in front, and Watts could have further reduced the deficit with a set-shot from 15-metres in-front but it was touched.

Adam Schneider replied with a solid 45-metre major, but then the game turned in the matter of two minutes when Watts booted two goals and Allan Murray a third to narrow the margin to four points.

Davis responded with a goal, the Saints hit back through Lenny Hayes before Davis had the final word, booting his third six-pointer for a 6.11 (47) to 5.7 (37) lead at the main change.

Watts proved to be a strong target up front, Riewoldt ran hard around the ground and provided plenty of kicks into the forward-50 and Troy Schwarze provided plenty of run in a solid effort in the backline.

In the second half Riewoldt was rested with Matt Maguire moving forward while the Swans replaced ruckman Jolly with Paul Chambers and Stephen Doyle who spent most of his time at full-forward.

The Swans' inaccuracy continued in the third term as they booted 2.7, with Stephen Powell, Nick Dal Santo and Hayes kicking majors to maintain a ten-point deficit into the final change.

Sydney's accuracy improved in the final stanza, the Swans managing four goals from their five scoring shots to St Kilda's three straight to improve the margin to 17 points at the final siren.

I am not concerned in the least.

Had we been playing in the NAB Cup, we would have been playing a game structure to win the match, but in these practice matches, players are thrown outside of their comfort zones as a trial for possible changes in the real season.

It appears we came out of it unscathed as far as injuries are concerned and that is good news to me.

The Swans already have a new set of injuries to worry about, and while I don't wish injuries upon them, they may actually be due after such a good run for them last season.

We have one last opportunity for a hit out with the Scorps next week and then we will be ready for the H&A season.

The REAL St Kilda will stand up and make itself known then.

GT seems to agree
