Players have superstitions and some follow exactly the same routine pre-match, listening to the same songs on the old ipod, wearing the same old holey red undies etc.
What's your pre-match routine? (beside getting on bigfooty:)).

My routine revolves around the TV...being in Canberra.
No matter which day or night we're playing I always start by making sure the fridge is stocked with the good old Johnny and Coke and that I have at least one pack of cigs about 4 hours before the siren...(I know, I'm old school and really PC these days).

Next I check that the HDD recorder is working and record a bit of what ever channel the game is on. The next task is to top up the genny with some petrol (just in case), and give her a short run to make sure all is in order. (I live on a farm and have had the ignomony of having the power go out with 15 minutes to go and score very close.) You don't know how much you rely on that new fangled lectrickery until it goes off....god even our phone won't work without it.

Next is to get a good feed in before the game because I can't eat, drink, smoke, swear and pace all at once.

Next, just before the broadcast starts, I start the HDD recorder(on the right channel) and proceed to convince my 3 year old that she is really looking forward to the footy, get her to sing Good Ol' collingwood a few times etc. This will either get her to go to sleep or get her to sit on the couch and watch the game unitl she nods off.(works day or night as she hits the sack between 7.30-9.00 at night and has a couple of hours about 2-4 in the arvo). If I don't do this she will want to play teachers or shop which, if the footy is on, is like pulling teeth.

Next, me and whoever else is in the room settle in for the 1st quarter.
About 5 or so minutes in the missus has had enough of my fingernail biting and umpire sledging to hotfoot it to the bedroom to watch her Big Love DVD boxed set.

If we win I watch the chit-chat after the match and then imbibe a few more coldies. If we lose I head out side and split some wood or kick the cat or sheep or whatever else comes near enough.

During the week after a loss I question the local avian type Magpies about their commitment.....

Am I insane?

To be honest, I'm not sure I have a pre-match routine. I'm a little bit dull in that respect, yours is a lot more interesting.

Usually I just go to the footy by train with a few mates, buy a soft drink at one of the vending machines at the station so as to avoid the gratuitous prices at the G, and get to the ground about 20 minutes before the bounce of the ball. After the match we usually go to a nearby pub to either celebrate the victory or drown our sorrows, depending on the result of the game. Then I usually get back home in a bit of a state, fumble with my keys to the house and practically fall onto my bed.

nope you're not insane, well apart from kicking the animals:),
Here is my routine before/during a game.....

Get my Guernsey on 5mins before the match starts, have a smoke, watch the first quarter with fear, ( i can usually tell in the first few minutes if the boys are switched on or not...)
Quarter time - Have a smoke, discuss the first quarter, complaing about the umpiring..
same goes for half and three quarter time..
at the end of the game if we lose i remember the good times, and if we win i usually hurt my fists when i pump the air with delight, and accidentally hit a beam on the roof..
and thats my pretty much my routine!

Ah...if only my routine included a train to the MCG....the joy.
I lived in Box Hill for a while back in the 70's (77 in fact, went to the drawn GF but not the replay) and got the train to the G a few times, also Punt Road (What a shithole, even back then).
I have great memories of Luna Park and not so great memories of Sharpies on the trains. (soem of the older members will remember Sharpies, may have even been Sharpies in which case "I want my ****in havasack back!"
