Just a quick question..... what happens in pre-apprenticeships?? do you learn about that trade or what??

My brother did a pre-apprentice course a few years back in butchery, learnt all the basics and did the cuts etc, at the end of the course he was a 2nd year apprenctice butcher...
Now I'm bugging him to invent a square sausage because wouldn't that just cook sooooo much easier!
