Predictions 2008

First of all modra and helen get a room.!
Saints will finish top 8 next year without a doubt. With all the reitrees they will have a stronger younger side freseher legs and i can see them making top 4.! You talk about the sides that are also going to improve but you didnt mention sides that will slide :
In my opinion, eagles, kangas, adelaide, sydney and maybe a few more, stkilda supporters you have nothing to worry about you will make a good challenge next year

WHat the hell are you talking about

Bourky23, you are one of the very few on this site and SAINTSATIONAL who are able to look at St.kilda without ROSE-COLOURED-GLASSES. I think your prediction above is spot on. You are absolutely correct regarding the Lions, Dogs and Dockers. I expect at least 2 of them to finish higher than us for sure. You also have got Richmond and Carlton who will improve. The 3 teams that will be on the slide are Sydney, Adelaide and St.kilda. This is why I am predicting St.kilda will finish anywhere between 10th and 14th. Of course nearly all the posters are saying top 8 and a lot are saying top 4. Don't get me wrong, I hope they are correct, but unfortunately I don't think so.....and neither do you.

The Dogs have no talls and with the retirement of Darcy, Grant, Robbins and Montgomery they will struggle big time. Minson, Harris, Street and Wight are basically it as far as big men go - not enough to make a side. Johnson and West are well aged and too heavily relied on. I think they are a highly over-rated team. Will not be a threat.

The Dorkers should do a lot better, but their midfield is still not that great. If they can bang it into the forward line quick they may go well, but historically they are pretty poor travellers - so 50% of their games are a maybe. They have the physical attributes, but not the mental toughness - perhaps Harvey will tear it out of them?

Brisbane will be hot and cold all year. Draft week may see their ruck stocks thinned considerably and they will have a lot of players struggling with 2nd year blues I reckon after what they would have considered fairly good years. Still early in their build, I don't see them as a consistent threat next season but they will claim some good scalps and possibly slide into the 8.

The Saints have a very good spine minus a key ruckman. I don't believe we should be utilising Kosi there and hopefully we can get Gardy up and going next year, and god forbid Brooks. That will make an IMMENSE difference to our side. A full season out of Goose and I think we have a lot of positives to look forward to. And as much as I love the G Train, I think he made our forward line a little one dimensional at times, hopefully we can make it an even spread next season.

a lot of people say that we will play an attacking brand of footy.
all year our st kilda did not play attacking footy - we had the lowest points for of any team in the afl this year while we had the 6th lowest amount of points kicked against us.

our game plan is more attrition like rather then attacking - we will grind our oppenents down not blow them away by 10 goals.

I'd just like to let you know that we are getting Ben Hudson to become our number 1 ruckman and we will be drafting a big man.

Our starting spine including ruckman will be:

FB: Harris, CHB: Williams, C: West, RM: Hudson, CHF: Murphy, FF: Johnson . Not bad. 4 players out of 6 over 190 cm with a young player maybe slotting into one of those positions

I reckon you'll do a lot better than this year. 5th-6th good injury run, 7th-8th few injuries

You know what the difference between 5-6 and 7-8 is? A quarter of football. Actually, more like five minutes of football.

Hudson is not young and won't solve the Doggies ruck problems for long. For the same reason I am not supportive of a move of Steven King to St Kilda. Would much rather Mark Blake, but I don't see a Derek Kickett situation happening.

Am I reading correctly? death to you... unless you are referring to the fact he physically shouldn't compared to normal humans but is an abnormal freak...

Sorry, misread the question. Thought it was for the 2009 list. No doubt that he should play in 2008.

goddard is in the best dozen you twit

goddard is in the best dozen

You may recall that Goddard did his knee this season - he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Such an injury can keep you off the field for over a year - I'd be more than happy to see him fully fit and ready to play in the starting 22 by Rd 1, but I am not convinced that Lyon will risk him early in the season.

feel better now ?

Good on CJ and Blake proving some doubters wrong! :)

4th looks pretty good at the moment, completely within our hands if we wanna take it.

So much for Watts lol.

Managed to kick 8 against my Tigers though. :(

Stole this off the Richmond Board. Just everyones opinion on what they think is in store for the Sainters in 08!

WATTS!!!!
Whats was i thinking? Ah well thats a prediction for you. So much for kosi kicking 50 for the year. I suppose him playing more ruck without Gardiner meant he wasn't going to be able to slot as many.

Roo will win the B'n'F but my top 6 is looking good:D:D

Happy to see Blake step it up another notch this year, dont mind being wrong on that front. Also, where the hell is L Fisher, he is never in the best for Casey, and he isn't injured????

as much as it pains me to say it... axcellence's post is the most accurate so far guys.. sure optimism is great and i hope we go well but guys we were rubbish last year and i'm not sure the turnaround will be as dramatic as we are all hoping.. to those people suggesting we'll finish top 4.... dream on!! we'll be lucky to make the 8

bourky....

B'n'F top 6: Dal, Riewoldt, Hayes, Sam Fisher, Gram, Gilbert Leaving out Harvey in his last year tch tch, and Max too, you really are biassed against the older players. :p
Leading Goal Kicker: Watts HA HA HA HA HA - a regular Nostrodamus, :D
Most Improved: Watts And again.
Debutants: No idea You should expand this comment to football in general.

What you will see: Barry Brooks stepping up to the plate. PFhhht :D

What you won't see: St. Kilda playing in the finals. COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY WRONG AGAIN,

Who should not be on the 08' List?
Don't know. Come on you want to get rid of Lenny don't you?

Players who will start in the best 22, but won't be there by seasons end:
Rix. Wrong - nowhere near the best 22. But of course old recycled King and Gardiner couldn't be expected to do anything.

Players who will join the best 22 by years end:
Armitage, Watts. I'll give you 25% for this one.

Total score: 4%
Your grade for this test is F minus minus minus minus.

What you will see: More defensive crap resulting in footy spending more in St Kilda's back half and staying there. Robert Harvey finally breaking down.

Who should not be on the 08' List? Raymond, Rix, C Jones, Blake

Players who will start in the best 22, but won't be there by seasons end: Watts

Players who will join the best 22 by years end: Allen

Happy to be quite wrong here...and eat humble pie. although I did this before we got Steven King and C. Gardiner. Also, while Gehrig didn't have a impact, this prediction was before his return. I did think about coming back writing an update after delistings & trade season.. to make it top 4.... but oh well... that's something for 2009... I won't post any predictions until atleast we've done some pre-season and the entire list is settled.

Gold SS......absolute Gold!!! I guess its predictions really sum up its knowledge of Stkfc and AFL in general. What a knob!!
