So assuming Jack, Vickery & Lids are all locks in the forwardline this year who should go with them if opposition match ups were irrelevant?

We had Griffith's take Lennon's spot in the EF,
Lloyd played well later in the season too,
Rioli was recruited to play as a crumbing small,
Yarran could play the small forward role too,
McBean has been tearing it up at VFL level but was underwhealming when he was given a couple of games,
Markov has had a great preseason
Edwards could spend more time in the forward line
Dusty could become a permanent forward

What's your preference for now and in the future?

I found the EF selection strange - bringing in Griffith over Lennon. Despite the height difference Lennon seems a far more accomplished mark and exactly what we needed during the North game. We really needed more options to go out of our back half but Griff looked frightened to present and the other forwards lacked confidence in him (saw a passage where Griff lead unconvincingly to Vickery so Vickery kicked it to Jack who was outnumbered).

I would like to see Yarran, Edwards, Markov and Rioli rotating through the forwardline as resting crumbers. I think they would be very dangerous but the days of permanent small forwards are gone. You have to take your turn rotating through the midfield now such as Edwards does so the other three would need to develop that side of their games to cement a place in the side too.

McBean needs more of a chance imo. I think he struggled with the roles he was assigned in the games he was given this year. The first he had to make Fletcher accountable and the second he was unlucky. I would love to see him played as a third tall/crumbing player. He really is a taller version of Lloyd imo.

I would like to see,

Ty Jack Titch
Lids Griff/Bean Dusty

Ideally one of Bean or Griff stands up and demands a KF spot so when our ruck rests we can hold our structure which I would have as below,

Broad Astbury Grimes
Yazz Rance Houli
Ellis Cotch Lennon
Lids Griff/Bean Dusty
Ty Jack Titch
Maric Towny Miles

Conca Lambert Tig Lloyd/Markov/Rioli - whoever has the best NAB form, personally despite being unpopular opinion I think Lloyd will have a very strong season - 30-40 goals.

Em: Batch Moore C Ellis

No room for Tigger?

I'd say it was more Griffiths for Lloyd, Conca for Lennon and the problem was more over confidence by the coaches because when fit, that'd usually be a better setup, but we have Griff and Conca coming back from injury and not match fit, and the coaches played them anyway in the hope/belief that'd we'd get past the EF and with the run under their belt they'd be more effective.

The knock on Lennon isn't his attacking play, it's that he goes missing when the opposition has the ball, which is why Conca was preferred.

I like the idea of putting Deledio at full forward, a la G Ablett Snr in his later years.

F: Vickery Deledio Rioli

HF: Jack Griffiths Martin

Vickery (is also our second ruck - 70/30 Ivan/Ty) hangs around the goalsquare with Rioli at his feet. Could be Lloyd or a combination of mids, but I'm happy to chuck Rioli in at the deep end and see what we've got.

Griff plays CHF but from the middle of the ground to the 50m line.

Meanwhile Lids, Jack and Dusty/resting mids go nuts creating their own patterns of play. All three are smart and bloody good footballers and would drive opposition absolutely freaking nuts.

Interesting that Lennon is currently rated first option with Rioli one vote behind. I though Lloyd would have received far more love and McBean is not rated at all.

If I was to use this poll as a basis for judgement, it would suggest that we would prefer a forwardline structure of two talls and two smalls. I'm not sure if that says more about the confidence people have in the capabilities of Griff and McBean or the setup itself?

Rioli, Vickery, Lennon
Conca, JR, Lids

Edwards, Dusty & Cotch need to roll through the fwd line as much as possible to stretch their opponents. This allows Lennon, Conca & Lids to rotate up the ground and expose their opponents on the rebound. Ivan can switch with Vickery and play from the square as neither is athletic enough to be dangerous playing too far out. Rioli needs to stay front & square of the FF/Ruck.

What I see up front however is a lack of defensive pressure or someone to harass and lock the ball in our forward zone. We already know Dimma will be prepared to allow a loose in their defence so he can do same. Perhaps he needs to find another player to play up front and even up the numbers and go one on one at both ends. Morris hasn't worked and I am wondering if maybe Vlas or even Townsend can be tried up front? Is Lambert or his best mate capable of playing a defensive forward role?

Edwards Reiwoldt Deledio
Vickery Martin Yarran

Lennon to spend time in there as well with rotations.

I'd love to see Short get elevated and play some games as a small forward throughout the year.
Rioli has time on his side and can spend most of the year developing in the 2's with the odd game to wet appetites for the future

Will all come down to if townsend and miles are rested forward which I think they need to. If so you can bank on the norm being that 2 of lids, cotch, miles, townsend, dustin, sheds being in the forward line at any given time. I also think we might see Vickery playing more time ruck than Ivan, with Ivan resting on the pine and Vickery resting forward . ruck breakdown might be 40 % vickery 35% ivan and 25% griffiths. If Cellis comes on and conca can improve and stay fit, players like lennon , llyod might find it hard to get a gig.

cellis Griffiths lids
dusty Jack miles

conca griffiths sheds
cotch jack townsend

I agree with most of that but....

I think McBean will be a player but not this year and those saying it's make or break are off the mark. Talls take time and why would we get rid of one when we've been developing him for years - madness.

So you think Broad is ahead of Batchelor?

I think Astbury will replace Chaplin but Dimma has shown he is pretty slow to act and stubborn on the older players. By mid year maybe.

I really can't see Lloyd making it let alone kick 30 -40 goals. C.Ellis will be 3 times the player he is and needs games into him.
Lennon miles better than Lloyd as well. I think this will be Lloyds last year at Richmond and possibly in the AFL.

Was Chaplin kicked out of the back line to the forward line because we have better defenders like Broad and Astbury or is it being tackled by a midget half his size and weight in that EF?

The single best thing about this post/side, is I cannot see Spud Chaplins name anywhere, not even in the emerencies. I know its not a mistake too.

This makes me very, very happy:D:thumbsu:

Prefer to see Deledio in the midfield. So i dont agree with the OP's premise anyway.

When the kids show enough i prefer the following.

H/F Lennon - Riewoldt - Rioli
F/F Butler - McKenzie - Vickery.

Unlike most i believe for us to become a top 4 side and a genuine contender we need many of the juniors to step up and force out about 8 of the regulars.

The question really is 'Do we play a dedicated second ruck from the bench'?

Imo if so (Griff gets this job)

Lids, Jack, Martin
Titch, Vickery, Lennon
Now Fleabag.
Is Lids,Jack,Dusty the f/fwd line or the HF line?:D
