LAUDERDALE has voted overwhelmingly to leave the SFL Regional League and step up to the Premier League next season, but with some guarantees.
Cats' president Arthur Johnstone said yesterday about 75 members attended the meeting, with two-thirds voting in favour of the step up.
``The vote was in favour of it at this stage on the proviso we get some guarantees from the football world,'' Johnstone said.
He said the details of these guarantees were confidential but did
say: ``We just want to be satisfied in three years time that the Lauderdale Football Club will still survive, that's all.''
Johnstone said the club is in talks with the SFL and AFL Tasmania.
``They certainly want an eight-team Premier League competition,'' he said.
``All the talks we have had with AFL Tasmania and the SFL have been positive.
``We have also had some talks with some of the players and they are very keen about going up as well.''
But Lauderdale, beaten Regional League grand finalists for the past two years, will have to look for a new coach.
Cats' coach for the past five seasons Anthony McConnon, stepped down to take up the coaching position with Sorell, which is seeking entry into the Regional League following a year in limbo.
Johnstone said if the guarantees were met a final vote would be taken at the club's annual meeting on October 22.
SFL general manager Noel Morrison said Lauderdale's promotion and Sorell's re-entry would be discussed at a full board meeting late last night.
He said as it was the first time for the proposals to be discussed, it was likely the meeting would be convened in a fortnight's time.
