Following up the ridiculous bets thread, here's how I see 2004 panning out for us. With 13 night and 1 twilight match we really should've recruited some vampires.

Round 1
Richmond vs. Collingwood MCG N-Win

Round 2
Collingwood vs. Western Bulldogs MCG D-Win

Round 3 (Easter)
Brisbane Lions vs. Collingwood Gabba N-Lose (Lions will fade but hold their psychological advantage over us-hopefully we beat them in the finals)

Round 4
Collingwood vs. Fremantle Dockers Telstra Dome D-Win

Round 5
Collingwood vs. Essendon MCG D-Win (we seem to win one lose one with the Bombers)

Round 6
Port Adelaide vs. Collingwood AAMI Stadium D-Lose

Round 7
Carlton vs. Collingwood MCG D-Win (100+ points)

Round 8
St Kilda vs. Collingwood Telstra Dome N-Win

Round 9
Collingwood vs. Adelaide Crows Telstra Dome N-Win (after the siren again!)

Round 10
Kangaroos vs. Collingwood Telstra Dome N-Win

Round 11
Collingwood vs. West Coast Eagles Telstra Dome N-Win

Round 12 (Queens Birthday)
Melbourne vs. Collingwood MCG D-Win (Tarrant boots 11)

Round 13 (Split Round)
Sydney Swans vs. Collingwood N-Win

Round 14
Collingwood vs. Hawthorn MCG D-Win

Round 15
Collingwood vs. Geelong Telstra Dome N-Win (Buckley reported for unduly rough play on Ling: 2 weeks)

Round 16
Collingwood vs. Brisbane Lions MCG N-Lose

Round 17
Western Bulldogs vs. Collingwood Telstra Dome N-Win

Round 18
Collingwood vs. Richmond MCG D-Win

Round 19
Fremantle Dockers vs. Collingwood Subiaco Oval Evening-Lose (exactly the sort of middling/hard game we seem to lose concentration for)

Round 20
Essendon vs. Collingwood MCG N-Lose (...like I said)

Round 21
Collingwood vs. Port Adelaide MCG N-Win

Round 22
Collingwood vs. Carlton MCG N-Big big win.

17 wins, should snag us top spot I'd say. Percentage should be healthy with two games vs Richmond, Carlton and Footscray.;)

Depends on injuries (obviously) and Malthouse.

If MM wants to consistently play out of form players (eg. 2003: Williams, Davis, Walker, at times Maddee etc.) or duds (eg 2003. Kinnear, Freeborn and I'm thinking of throwing Davis in here), over better performing players, then we could easily get exposed more than five times.

We must play like our run home (forgetting the nightmare), all year. Then we may get 16-17 wins.

Mate

We always lose to Hawthorn and we always lose one or two games we don't expect to so you are being a tad optimistic.

15 wins will be a good result for us this season.

Besides, if we can't beat Brissy in the GF, it doesn't matter how many wins we have this season.

I reckon we might 3peat.

We should be capable of 18 wins. 4 losses counting a WA and Gabba loss as well as two from home & AAMI matches. We start as second best with Port possibly having some claims to that "title" and with Brisbane as a clear number 1 but beatable in the regular season. 18 wins is an achievable target. We could do better if we have a very good injury run and our heads are screwed on after the GF. If it burns like it should we could be anything this season.

There is no reason we can't finish top after the H&A and we should be aiming for that. After the GF debacle we have to prove to ourselves that we are good enough. We must go into the GF if we get there knowing we are worthy premiers and that the opponent has to be at their absolute best to have any chance of beating and that if they are at their best we can still beat them. We also have to ensure the opposition doesn't go in thinking we are brittle.

I see the season opening as very important. Generally I don't care about the night comp or the early games. This year is different. IMO we should show real balls and come out and say we are targeting the night comp and that we want to go through the season undefeated. That will undoubtedly bring a fair degree of derision and scorn from other clubs and supporters but F@RK 'EM! We should worry about ourselves and set ourselves very high standards. More than that we should have the courage to put our high aims out in the public domain and be accountable for our failings.

Round 14
Collingwood vs. Hawthorn MCG D-Win

No Chance

Collingwood to finish out of the top four this year after the home and away season. Other teams have caught up. Will perform well in the finals though. Prelim minimum, however i'm afraid to say, the team will go backwards. Some brilliant key position players are required. Rocca and Tarrant cannot hold the ship forever. Will be better in 2006

Hey Cyclops, I'll give you the odds of 100-1 that that your 'Wobblers' won't beat the 'New Blues' by over 100 pts. And remember, you're only as good as your last premiership. (If you can remember that long ago)

I remember 1990 very well - only 5 years before Carlton's last flag. Love to have some of that 100 to 1. How much did you have in mind?

That'd be a Carlton supporter you're betting with-if you win the bet he'll just change his administration and ask for leniency.

the big improvers this year will be Essendon (with Matty Allan back to All-Australian form in the ruck),

Hawthorn (with Trent Croad looking as pretty as Dermie did in his halcyon daze) and

St Kilda (with Rob Harvey back to Brownlow winning form and the young guns exploding)

Allen is a physical and mental basket case, Croad would be a hack if he was ever any good at actually playing football and harvey is a gun who played near his current best last year anyway. If any of these clubs improve at all it will because their young players contribute as much as ours have in the last 2 years and they have senior players like Buckley, Burns and Licuria who will give their all for the jumper. I've seen no eviodence of the latter at these clubs for some time. St.Kilda may be able to match us in the former but the jury is still out. We will be better than all 3 of those clubs in 2004.
