Have been saying the exact same thing for a month. The Cox Plate does not suit her style of racing one bit, and either will the track. Plenty of good horses have shown that they can win plenty of sit-and-sprint type races over the spring, but fail to keep up and get an easy run in a fast run 2040m (Lonhro in a weak field, anyone?). There's no easy way to win a Cox Plate, and with Prviate Steer's style of racing, she'll need a dream run to win it.

It should suit the racing style of the best horse in the country- Grand Armee! (His best is yet to come, and he will be horse of the spring, IMO).

I think people are making too much of this run. PS came in pretty poorly on the weights, wouldn't have appreciated the drop back in distance, and she's never handled Rosehill. If she gets out a bit on the Cox Plate market, fantastic.

Agree about people making to much of that run, but my doubts on her were well before yesterday. I don't think there's any chance she'll get an easy run in the Cox Plate, and in a fast run 2040m she will not be able to take a nice sit and sprint over the top of them. She won't win, and I'm happy for the punters to keep her in at the short odds.

Agreed Catman, not sold on Private Steer could be just another Sydney horse that flops in Melbourne.
