Ok so I took the advice & picked up a copy of this game really cheap as no3 had just come out.

Playing in a league I went down to the 2 star level juts to get the hang of it & enjoyed bashing the machine up a bit & then I went back up to 3 star level & that's where my problems began......

I'm haing no trouble with the defensive side of the game but scoring goals is a real problem, I'm even playing 3 at the abck with one of them almost in midfield & then with loads of attacking players but it's still a nightmare.

I read a couple of websites dedicated to it but I find that some of the stuff doesn't come off that well, the feint/shoot thing that you do when 1 on 1 with the goalie I find really hard to pull off, the same with the 1-2.

Mainly though it's just hard to get a clear shot in & then when I do most of them are saved, I can score against the weaker sides but against the good teams its hard.

A typicla game I have about 60-65% possession but draw 0-0 or lose 1-0.

They advise you not to use the R1 too much when you're in possession but I find it really hard to change from that when you haven't got the ball to using R2 plus when I use R1 it makes it easy to get upfield quickly from the defence to the attack.

So can anyone offer any help?Especially you gPhonque as you're the biggest supporter of the game, I've come close to smashing the thing up on a few occasions with frustration.:(

Welcome to real football!

:D

That's the beauty of Pro Evo - scoring goals requires at least some degree of SKILL, unlike FIFA.

There's no certain way to score goals in Pro Evo.

Work on your skills.

Doing a 1-2 is easy:

Hold L1 and press X, and your player will make a run down the field as soon as he's passed it. Then, if you want to put the ball back out in front of the guy making the run, press TRIANGLE (through pass) - easy!

You can even do it really quickly

eg.

Press L1 and X - player A passes and makes a run - press TRIANGLE straight away (before the pass has reached player B) and then player B will make a "first touch" through pass putting it back out in front of player A.

I pretty much use the 1-2 constantly as I'm moving down the field, so I've always got players moving down the field and creating some run etc......

If you're one-on-one with the goalie, try shooting a low grubber towards goal - I've found that the most consistent way to score. (it's certainly easier than trying to drill it into the top corner)

That's what is fantastic about Pro Evo - you never know how the goals are going to be scored - there are so many different ways.

Also, try taking a shot from outside the box occasionally - you can often get rebounds off the defense that sometimes give you a quick chance to score.

Through balls (TRIANGLE) into the penalty area (passed in from the SIDE of the box) can be VERY effective as well.......you can split the defense open with this quite easily if you have a player running onto the pass - that's when you drill it (first touch) into the top corner. :D

Remeber also that you can ALWAYS set up your pass or shot BEFORE your player has even got the ball.

eg.

Player 1 has the ball on the side of the penalty area......you see your teammate (player 2) on his own just outside the CENTRE of the penalty area.....press TRIANGLE - player 1 will put a pass out in front of player 2.

THEN - you can set up your shot (press your shoot button) BEFORE player 2 has recieved the ball, which means that when he runs onto the ball, he'll make a first-touch shot.

If you wait until player 2 has recieved the ball before you press your shoot button, then he'll usually be run down by the defense.

Does that make sense?

That applies all around the ground too.

Also, if you're trying to play it like FIFA and dribble the ball all the way down the field, then you'll be frustrated forever.

You need to play football when you play Pro Evo.

You'll get the hang of it, don't worry.

I didn't score in probably the first 5 or 6 games I played when I got the first version of Pro Evo.

Just keep playing and practicing. The more you play, the more you will notice all the little details in the gameplay that FIFA doesn't have, and then it's just a matter of using them to your advantage.

Keep possession - use short passes - lots of 1-2s....through balls.....try crossing into the penalty area......

Just play football and keep your eyes open for any little gaps in the defense that you can take advantage of.

I'd nail the 1-2 first though if I were you.

Thanks for that mate, looks like I'll have to work on my game.:D

To be honest I wasn't expecting goal scoring to be easy but at times it's got silly, I've never actually played FIFA so I don't know what that's like but I prefered the sound of a more realistic game & it certainly is that.

The main frustration I have is that I have loads of possession & I get men in good positions but they either get closed down really quickly or if they manage to get a shot of the goalie nearly always saves.

I don't know if how I've been setting my team up is helping or not but bascially I've been France most of the time & I've got a couple of men wide & tried to get people at 45% of each other so that I can move the ball forward quickly from back to front.

One other thing is it just me being ham fisted or does the shoot power thing sometimes have a mind of it's own?Sometimes I think I've just given it a quick poke & my shot flies over whilst other times I feel like I've tried to give the shot a fair bit of power but the shot still stays under the crossbar.

Quick question....

In FIFA, if I go anywhere near a defender, or any player of the opposition actually, when I have the ball, it will be tackled from me and I lose it.

In real soccer you can dribble the ball next to players while fending them off etc...but this doesnt apply in FIFA, go anywhere near a player and you lose the ball.

Pro Evo have the same problem?

Nup.

:D

Sometimes, you can have these little running battles - the defender right behind the guy with the ball (or along side him) pushing into him and generally hassling him and trying to win the ball.

It happens both when somebody is in possession, and also when two players are running side-by-side chasing the loose ball.

It has been so since the first Pro Evo.
