I've been posting this question around the interwebz, and thought this forum was worth a shot too.
I am trying to connect two 17" LCD monitors from my laptop, running Windows 7: an HP1755 LCD, a DELL 1707FP LCD, with an NVIDIA GeForce G102M video card.
The aim is to have the two LCDs extend (primary on the left, desktop extending to the right), while the laptop lid stays down, unused. There is only one VGA port from the video card. I have the HP monitor connected to that, with the DELL monitor connected to the notebook via a USB display adapter.
Here is my problem. For a while, it works great. The second display is a touch fuzzy, but something I first put down to the vagaries from extending the VGA cable and running it through the adapter. After a few minutes, however, the second (DELL) monitor goes black, displaying the following message:
1: Analog Input
Cannot Display This Video Mode
I've tried switching the monitors over, but the same thing happens with the HP, telling me:
Input Signal Out of Range
The drivers are up to date (they came on a mini-CD with the adapter, and there are no additional online updates available). The Display settings in the Control Panel and the NVIDIA advanced settings are all set to the required resolution and refresh rate of 1280x1024 @ 60Hz.
I'm completely stumped as to why it works for a short period of time, then suddenly tells me it can't display anything anymore.
