PS2 DVD problem

Having just joined the 21st century and bought a PS2, I'm having some problems with the DVD component. I got a couple of disks with the black slab, some play fine but others have a terrible flicker between light and dark, perfect vision to worse than dodgy VCR. All the games I have are no worries, and some movies are fine also. Tried taking the VCR out of the loop, this fixed the problem with the bad DVDs. Doing a bit of research on the net it seems that some disks copy protection is incompatible with a VCR in the loop. Does this sound right, and is there a way to determine before purchase/renting if a disk has said copy protection? Not as good without the big noise through the stereo.
FWIW - Bad ones - Big Fat Greek Wedding, Midnight Oil 20000 Watts
Good ones - Blackadder, Crocodile Hunter movie

Cheers

Yep. that's all right. (copy protection flickering etc)

I don't believe there's any way of telling whether a DVD has any copy protection, but I can definately solve your audio problem though. :)

You sound like you're set up similarly to me. (you need to plug your PS2 into your VCR in order to hear your stereo, correct?)

If it's possible for you, which it sounds like it is, do what I do:

Plug the PS2 video plug (yellow obviously) straight into an AV channel on your tv.

Plug the audio plugs into your VCR.

The plugs don't reach to both the TV and VCR?

Easily fixed - either seperate the PS2 video cable from the 2 audio cables (it should come apart easily - just slowly pull it apart) or you can always buy a little single AV extension cable for about $5 or $10 and use that to get to the TV "video/yellow" input.

Then you obviously just set the TV and VCR to the channels you plugged the leads into, and there you go! DVD with no flickering and lots of loud stereo!

Does that make sense?

It might sound complicated but it's not at all. All you're doing is using seperate channels on your TV and VCR.

And it will fix your flickering DVD problem since the video cable is going straight into your tv.
