PS3 dead

I think its more like 3%, which is pretty reasonable for most electronic products.

Thats actually a very lucky outcome. It's very good to hear Sony doing that.

The guy was really helpful. Made the case that the 40G PS3s had only been out for a few months and proof of purchase wasn't required for another 9 months. I was shocked.

It seems to be a fairly common defect. Stories all over the internet of the same thing occuring.

Your right. Mainly depends on what games you prefer. I have had PS1 and a PS2 and have been a Sony fan for a while - mainly to the huuuge catolouge of games they offer. Im more of a Sports game player TBH. But now with me ageing and not having hours of time to use it because of work I will be more of a casual gamer and I think the Wii may be the best option - especially when people come around:)
Well if you will only be casual then you will want to either get a Wii or PS3, a Wii would be great for parties and stuffing around but the games and graphics are pretty poor considering it is a "Next-Gen" console, if you will want to play online with the sports games, but will be casual then you will want the PS3 as you won't need to pay for online(Even though there can be poor lag online), if you see yourself as being someone who will get more and more into gaming then you will probably want a 360 for the time being as they have the superior online and sports games at the moment, but you will have to pay for online and that might not be your bag as you might just be a casual gamer.

It will be a hard choice definetly.

heh... You are lucky sony are just soo good to their customers :P

What they should do is for warranty claims work like the Ipod... Apple log when an item with a certain Serial number is sold. and you don't need ANYTHING but the serial code(on the ipod) to claim warranty.

I bought optional 3 year warranty for the ps3 as to make sure nothing like the 360 problems happened.

i've had my ps3 for 2 months and my wireless controller has died already..... will no longer hold a charge!

Register your products people! Makes warranty claims so much easier.

Not registering is like driving a car without insurance.

best advice ever:thumbsu:

i tell customers this and they think its so we can keep track of them:rolleyes:

you get kept upto date with software drivers etc. and as you said so much easier to track.

Sorry for the stupid question. but what do you mean by register your products?

its the process of registering your product on the companys web site (say sony in this case)

you enter the date of purchase and serial number, so they can retrieve it from there many computer products will auto register themselves. i dont know if the ps3 does that if connected to the web. but thumbs up for customer service.

another thing customers dont try before bringing back faulty goods as youve found with sony dealing direct with the manufacturer can resolve things quicker and easier than returning them to place of purchase.

Just give them a call and see what they can do, the 40gig model (which I'm assuming you have) hasn't been out for a year yet, so surely they will believe you that you have had it within the year.

I bought a 360 in Malaysia last year - Macrosoft fixed my 3 ring (t)error.

A mate of mine told me that he heard the 40GB PS3's don't play PS2 games. I've got a 60GB one and it plays them just fine.

Any truth in this?

Yeah the new ones aren't backwards compatible. One of the things they did to reduce the price i guess
