Will a PS3 operate through a Soniq plasma? Has any got a PS3 and using it through a Soniq plasma? What is the quality like, is there any reason as to why a PS3 wouldnt operate through a soniq plasma?
 
i dont see why not? if it has a HDMI port there shouldnt be any issue. if there isnt then you'll have to use the normal RCI's

as for quality i'm not sure..
 
It will work, but how well it works is another thing.

What is the resolution of the TV?

I remember seeing Soniq TVs that had really low res, like 800x600ish.

Does the TV have HDMI inputs?
 
Yeah it does have a HDMI port, not sure of the resolution. It maybe 852x480. Is that going to produce a low quality picture or should it be ok?

the picture depends on many things.

contrast ratio, refresh rate, resolution are 3 of them.

The way i see it if DVD's look good on it then it should do OK for the PS3. I know DVD's arent hi-def but at least you'll be able to see the image quality and sharpness as well as the colour quality - it could only be better with HDMI
 
HDD size is a nothing stat on the PS3.

The 80 that is coming is a 40 with a bigger HDD. You can replace the drive in a PS3 with any 2.5" SATA drive. So many PS3s are 250GB, 320GB etc.

yes but the package that they come in do differ. I can confirm that the 40GB PS3 is definitly not backwards compatible, as this is the model that i bought. and i did indeed upgrade the HD to 80GB

The 20gig ones were a part of the initial PS3 launch, along with the 60gig. These were phased out and replaced with the cheaper to produce 40gig and 80gig models that are lighter in features (no backwards compatibility, no SACD support, less usb ports). The 40gig is on the way out now aswell, with the 80gig model taking its place at the same price point.

I suppose backwards compatibility through software, like the US 80gig model, could be offered as a firmware upgrade, unlikely though imo. Sony want you to play PS3 games and watch Blu-ray movies on the PS3, not play your old PS2 games.

The 20gig and 60gig ones are no longer produced. If you are interested in Blu-ray and intend on buying your movies from the superior range and cheaper prices in US (amazon or dvdpacific) a Japanese PS3 is the way to go - you're in Region A for Blu-ray, games are region free anyway and it's cheaper. But you do miss out on a warranty, and it's locked to region 2 for dvds.

If you want a local one the only choice is the 40gig machine. I think there are a few bundles going around, MGS4/GTA4 iirc. The 80gig one is coming next month for the same price as the 40gig, it's exactly the same machine though, just a bigger hard-drive. Upgrading the hard-drive on your own, with a 2.5" SATA one, is incredibly simply though.
