Hi,

I’m just wondering if anyone can help me here. I have an old model 40 gig PS3 and we do have wireless Internet. But for some reason I can’t connect/play online without an ethernet cable. Is there something I have to do here to make the wireless work?

turn it on! this is a serious answer. you need to turn wireless on and then set it up to connect to your network.

if you have done this, need more info

Now by wireless internet do you mean you have 3G? Or you have Wi-Fi connecting to ADSL, or something similar?

Need a lot more detail as to what you have tried.

BTW the PS3's antenna is crap, can't detect my network half the time so it may just be that.

We have a D-Link Broadband router.

It could an antenna issue. The modem and the PS3 are on opposite ends of the house, seperated by bricks and cement.

Is your network showing up when you scan? if not your router's probably out of range/ not working properly.

It could also be a problem with your internet security settings, try turning them to minimum.

It shows up when I scan, only around 25%, but it's there.

Where do I find what my WLAN Security Settings is? I've tried going with "None" because I wasn't sure but then it just times out and doesn't do anything.

How far away is your router from the ps3? Are there many devices such as microwaves etc in between your router and the TV? What type of router do you have?

Having the wireless is handy but to be honest for gaming and the like a wired connection is far better. The wireless connection fluctuates a lot and will not provide you with a consistent connection and thus will affect gameplay. I run a 20m ethernet cable for this purpose.

WLAN Security Settings would be the password you use to connect to the internet. You can find it labelled on your router, or by logging into your router via the computer that it is connected to.
