just a quick question regarding this years drafts.

under the new priority pick system if carlton win less than 5 games and dog us out of the #1 (assuming we finish 16th) draft pick in the National Draft...do they also get #1 in the Preseason/Rookie Drafts?
just wondering as i hope we have first crack at a PSD that could possibly contain at least one big name player.
 
no it doesnt

psd/rookie is purely the ladder positions, no trading or PP involved

who's your big name player S King or some other hack?
 
If S King comes to Richmond we should all just give it away. If we do finish last we should try for Saint Nick.

I'll tear my own eyes out if King comes to Richmond, and I can't believe any one actually thinks the saints will let Nick leave.

Doubt very much you will go for King and I am pretty sure he will stay a Cat. Lots of good ruckmen in the draft, if you don't get Krueser (standout No.1 pick) you will still be well positioned to get a good ruckmen with your priority pick. You may very well pick up 2 ruckmen.

There are still a few players who are unsigned that are big names: Reiwoldt, Pavlich, Judd & Dal Santo are the huge names. Dal Santo took a pay cut to stay at St Kilda last time though. I could see you offering far more than Freo, St Kilda & Westcoast could offer purely because you must have a fair bit of Salary cap room available.

Prismall from Geelong is out of contract and may look for more game time.

do u think he would leave geelong?? would they let him go?? because i would love to have him at tigerland!
 
I get the feeling that we will possibly target a player like Meeson in the PSD unless a trade is done involving Meyer. As nice as it would be to get a player like Nick, Dal Santo, Pavlich(oh the irony) or Judd in reality none of them will walk from their clubs.

Most likely it will be a younger player looking for more game time or like 2 years back when we took White we may go for another young draftee that was overlooked in the ND.

No.

the HUN reported not long ago (the same article about richmond chasing Charman) that apart from the big names such as Judd, Riewoldt, Dal Santo and Pavlich there are at least 30 decent players who come out of contract. chances are out of 30 decent players one or two of those at least will not get traded/re-sign.

Don't overestimate the PSD.

For the years we came last, every one of them was filled with "lets land a big name player via the PSD".

When the truth is;

*Players want to show loyalty to their clubs and ensure that their club doesnt get screwed.

*Players are reluctant to walk out on a club, and into one that finished last.

*Players don't want the "mercenary" stigma attached to themselves.

Good chance you will find something. This year has an unussually high number of players comming out of contract to as managers have arranged contracts end this year to coinside with next years changes to the salary cap.
