I dont get to too many Etihad night games and Im pretty unfamiliar with the area around there. I'm looking for a pub close by that has decent meals just walking distance from the stadium. Also is there a spot pre or post game that Tigerheads tend to gather? After a win Id love to share it with a few ferals and its a long walk to the Cricketers :)

Been to the royal melbourne (bourke st) a few times for beers and a feed prior to ethiad games - gotta get in early to grab a table for a feed though as it can fill up...

Absolutley nothing like the cricketers or the royal though... but then again, not many pubs are!

There`s two pubs right near gate 3, which is the first gate you get to when you walk across from Southern cross.

Just walk down the stairs and across the road, there`s one to the right called the Nixon...

and one to the left called Platform 28.....

Usually plenty of fans in these two joints.

I`ll be scanning in early, getting a pass out and attending one of them.

Melbourne Public is another one. Luke Darcys family owns it, food is supposedly pretty good and its a short walk from the Yarra to the ground.
I have stopped going to the Precinct because I found out that flog owns it. I am not giving him one cent of my money.
I always find the Medallists Bar inside Etihad is as good as any. It's big so you're not crushed in.

yeah the nixon is pretty handy, decent meals, beers flowing, normally packed before the games

But it's owned by Ricky Nixon.
Gee I sound bitter and twisted in this thread:o

I'll be passing through the royal standard. Not 'close' (top of flagstaff gardens), or even particularly footy related, but the food is good and they're having a charity night (raffle, auction, etc).

Stopped reading at Darcy..:D

Thanks guys...great info as expected! Was keen on the Nixon until tugga pointed that out...the royal melbourne sounds good..might try that... better go get the plane I guess. Go you TIges...am so looking forward to winning this, will make a huge statement if we can

I like the Great Western on King St. It's a proper pub with good beer and pub meals. It can be massive before Victory games. The Royal Melbourne's a bit big and soulless for mine, and the other 'pubs' listed here aren't pubs.

The Carron (up the west end of Spencer St ) is a good footy pub.

Won't be checking for ages, then.

The Carron is a ripper .. that said I just generally arrive early and head to the Livewire and drink up there and rarely get out of there until well after the final siren!!

As for Tugga and the Nixon .. really????? He's that self-indulgent to call his pub The Nixon???? Tosser!!

You are asking if Ricky Nixon is self-indulgent??????
He tries to pass it off as being named after the former US president and they have a bust of him somewhere in there to try and justify it, but that would only fool the very dumbest or gullible of people.

The Wool shed across the road from Etihad (and CH 7) in New Quay is great - good atmosphere full of footy supporters,... I'll be there!

He's got a bust of Richard Nixon in there??

Hard to pick which Nixon's the more dodgy/immoral.
