Can someone please tell me why Australia as a country under the Monarchy isn't getting a public holiday for the death of the Queen Mother? I thought with John Howard's love for the royals this would happen. I believe England is. Can someone please enlighten me on as to why Australia misses out. Or is it the Monarchy your having when not having a Monarchy!!

Why do you want a holiday because someone overseas died ?

Why is Little Johnnie going to the funeral ?Surely the Governor "cover-up" General should be the one to go & make it a one way ticket.

I'm just asking why don't we get a holiday when a member of the Monarchy dies? We aren't a republic but, this tells me we aren't part of the Monarchy either

pity dan26 isnt king

I think it would definitely happen if the Queen died, but seeing as the mum didn't really have an official role or title, she is just seen as another eprson, however loved and popular she was.

The British Parliament has been recalled today to 'pay tribute' to the old trout.

If the Royal Household wish for a public holiday over here they will ask Parliament to grant it. If that happens the Commonwealth types (you lot) might be asked to consider something similar.

After the three days of sycophantic garbage since she fell off the twig ("So, tell me, just how wonderful was she?") I deserve a day off. I shall avoid TV news though.

I'm surprised she lasted so long with the 'busy' life she led. It must be sooo tiring to smile gently and say "Hello, and what do you do?" I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

This is what sh*ts me about australian society as a whole. We don't seem to care about who actually died, more as when we get that holiday to celebrate her death. You can't be fu(king serious. Some of the pathetic excuses for public holidays shouldn't exsist, as the only reason for them is to have an extra day to get pissed, and missing out on the real reason.

Bomber Boy your missing my point. I just want to know why Australia a country part of the commonwealth doesn't have a public holiday as she was once head of state. I don't believe I said anything on getting pissed etc. If Australia is a monarchy then we should be consistent with decisions made by the Mother country.

she was never head of state.

The monarchy is patriarchal, racist in-bred system....so she was married to the head of state but not actually the head of state....much like Prince Phillip.

They will all be the 1st up against the wall when the revolution comes.

Probably because of the same reason you love having a holiday for the birthday of someone overseas

It sure as hell would be a better reason for having a holiday than a horse race.

I don't know why we have holidays for those either and the Queen's birthday holiday isn't even on the Queen's birthday.

Pretty much pr for the course around here mate. Of course they don't wait for something as rare as a revolution....the wall can be used any old time.

Howard doesn't like Creen (or Costello for that matter).....no problem....Bob the Builder will fix it.
