In the Eagles vs Freo game one of Freos players punched the ball over the line on the full for a point and it wasnt a free kick from the goal square. Did they change this rule or did all five umpires around the contest simply not realise it exists?

The deliberate rule was put in to deal with time wasting, not to elimiate the practice entirely.
Players are allowed to do it if they're under pressure, and while I'm not sure which incident you're referring to, I don't recall a lot of 'easy' ball in the F50, so it was probably legit.
It was from a ball-up in the goal square, I wondered the same thing.
If a ruckman punches the ball straight out of bounds from a bounce it's a free kick, why not when they punch it straight through the goals?

If it's directly from a bounce or boundary throw-in, it should be a free kick for a deliberate behind (assuming no-one else touched the ball). In the AFL that's the interpretation, but not so in other leagues.
Unless, they've changed the interpretation in the AFL without telling anyone, or the umpire made a mistake.

For a free kick to occur, I believe it needs to be punched for a deliberate behind on the full, as well as no-one else touching the ball.
Didn't see the game, so not sure of what happened in this situation.
