Does anyone know if he can play forward? We have so many backmen now and he is a beautiful mover... would love to bring Goldsack in and send Cox forward

Cox should hopefully be able to play in a number of positions (forward, on-the ball, doggy, reverse cowgirl etc.), but his demeanour and ability down back may see him become a Clement-esque rock down back.
Oh dear. :D

I think he would be good at stoppages through the midfield (at times), a strong body and he is a one-touch player (to some extent), but if he can keep performing to a level in which he may become a rock down back then his goalkicking days are numbered. Furthermore, he is balanced and nothing seems to worry him in the pressure situation.

Presti and Wakes may be pushed into retirement, so there would be room opening for Goldsack.

He looked like he could handle full forward when i saw him play there for willy reserves on one occassion.

And yet none of this in jest. Bravo, Coin _Toss. My vote for 'most mature post in the face of adversity'.

Cox looks like Clement in his early days of being switched to defense - Maybe not quite GOOD enough at that point in time to suggest that it was definitely their spot, but much more comfortable back than forward.

You know whats funny? Dean cox has never copped it like this bloke has. If he didn't debut in the same game as Dick, he wouldn't be being talked up like he is.

We don't need another forward do we? Train him as a rock hard backmen from day 1, or in 3 years time everyone will squealing like they are about the ruck at the moment. I still don't buy this switch hitter stuff when it comes to the back line. H Shaw is about the only one who can genuinely make it look easy ATM.

Don't know if we need another backman either

B: R Shaw Presty Clement
HB: H Shaw Maxwell O'Brien

With Wakelin and Anthony at opposite ends of the experience spectrum and Goldsack showing plenty in defence in the Magoos as well.. cant fit them all down back

With Cox down back, it seems Maxwell is left without a spot.
I know MM has tried him up forward without much success, but i think he plays his best footy down back.

Its becoming a bit of a problem, too many decent backmen, not a bad problem let him assure you all.
I Like Maxwell, he is tough as nuts, and a pretty decent player, but with Anthony, and one of Reid and Brown looking to become kpp backmen is Maxwell a trade option?

I think there's definitely room for Cox and Maxwell in the team. Maxwell can play forward although he's best suited back, Cox can play forward AND midfield. O'Brien seems to be a specialist defender. Not sure about Brown but I'm hoping he can play both ends. Reid seems to be a forward. Jury's out on Anthony now with his injury, as his development has been set back by a year. Presti Wakelin Lonie and Clement will all be gone in a few years, and H Shaw will progress to the midfield, so theres a number of vacancies coming up in defence. R Shaw too can play midfield.

While I would not write Maxwell off as a trade option down the track, its WAY too early to be making that suggestion. The other thing in his favour is his rapid development as a leader around the club.

I agree and disagree.

I too reckon Maxwell plays his best footy down back. Great spoil, hard at the ball and player, yells out directions, spots up players well, great tackle, extremely courageous etc etc .... just so much he can do.

But in the forward line I don't think his job is really to kick goals if you're referring to "...without much success". I think it's to apply the same sort of attacking pressure but against opposition defenders. If he bags a goal then that's a bonus. If he assists in goals that's expected but if dogs the hell of the defenders then he's doing his job. :thumbsu:

I see what you mean, but I mean as a future skilled replacement. Clement will also be on the cusp of retirement in 2 years. With Presty/Wakes not far behind. Maybe it is time for H Shaw to head wing? IMHO still think the forward line will be just as cluttered. But you may be right, as Rocca will be gone around same time as Presty/Wakes and Cloke/Dawes are still a work in progress, Cox will never be big enough to be KPP in forward line though will he?

Well right now I reckon we are short of a tallish forward because we lost Rusling who was going to be that 3rd option and Maxwell is just not cutting it for me, If Cox can play forward he just seems the perfect size and mobility for the specialist tall flank, he's actually 1 cm taller than Rusling at 191cms

I am not sure if Little Cox will be a forward line player, but for what it's worth someone must think he is able to play forward as I have him in my DT as a forward line player.

Medhurst plays tall.
