Surely it would be a win/win situation for Qantas to be the major sponsor of the Roos. Even the kangaroo logos are similar.

Qantas sponsor many sporting events and teams including the Socceroos and the Wallabies. They are also AFL sponsors already.

Mazda have been awesome for the Roos, but Ive always thought that a Qantas/Roos partnership could really get our brand noticed more throughout Australia.

Qantas has been a major sponsor fo the Kangaroos - can't remember the timing.

I am sure the club has looked at this in their overall sponsorship plan.

some of the old timers will be able to talk about the days when the Kangas were sponsored by the Big Red Rat. Now does Qantas want more exposure than what The Roos can offer, and also be able to generate decent revenue from the sponsorship. Hence why they sponsor international sporting teams and the AFL as a whole.

And in case you didn't know what Qantas stands for.....Quick and nasty typical Australian service.

Qantas was North major sponsor in the 1980's and early 1990's then NZI Insurance took over thanks to Denis Pagan then after that was Zoom Zoom Mazda and there could have been another sponsor between NZI and Mazda.
Its fair to say that the AFL has sponsored North over the last few years :p

HP was in there at some stage (not sure if they were the major sponser). When a new CEO came in (think it was a female) who didn't like footy the Roos were dumped.

They were minor sponsors - they had three hoardings at Arden Street with Qantas written on them throughout the Pagan era

I think Hypertec were the major sponno in 96 and then HP in 97, 98, 99 and was around about 2000ish that Mazda took over.

Qantas already sponsor the Wallabies & Socceroos (as major sponsors).

They get far more national & international exposure with those 2 sides (and pay a fair whack for the rights).

Can't see them ramping up sponsorship with us anytime soon (BTW - they have been a long standing Tier 2 sponsor, since NZI took over in the early 90's).

Hypertec PC's were an Australian owned company, Hewlett Packard then bought them out in Australia and only continued their sponsorship as it was a Hypertec PC's sponsorship deal until it expired. HP were never interested in renewing with us, sad but true.

Yeah Qantas would be terrific, or even AMP (blue logo)

But being the owner of a mazda 3 I'm happy with Mazda!!

As I recall Hypertec hyperextended and went into receivership. I assumed it must have been a mad keen CEO who was a Roos fanatic but didn't quite have the marketing budget to support the deal. Surely got the best opportunity of any sponsor in 96 with the logo on the biggest stage of all. Pity they couldn't gain the leverage from that to kick on.

Hypertec had and have no connection with HP.

Hypertec were a successful Aussie memory manufacturer but did their nuts and cash very quickly when making an unsuccessful foray into the personal computer business - coincided with their sponsorship of North.

HP did have a female CEO (Carly Fiorini) - who was given the khyber last year and she played no role in our subsequent sponsorship. That was approved by HP Australia - and funded jointly by HP and MDF (marketing development funds) by HP's key reseller & distributor channel (i.e. Tech Pacific, BCA, Volante etc etc).

Good times - as I had a seat at 90% of the Chairman's Luncheons on game day during the HP sponsorship:thumbsu:

Qantas is a sponsor with the AFL meaning that all domestic flights around Australia are as part of the deal with the AFL.

Lidge makes a good point with the sponsorship deals already with the Wallabies and the soccerroos that it wouldnt be necessary to fork out even more money.

Maybe if Ansett were still in operation, it could be an avenue to explore but we have to be happy with Mazda, Primus and Reebok which provide a more than competitive sponsorship deal which is most likely to be in the upper half of AFL deals.

Personally I still think GMH would be our perfect fit.

Remember the ads.... Football, meat pies, Kangaroos and Holden cars.....

You could make some great ads out of that lot!

Good idea Redd, my idea is from left feild a little, maybe we could get an Austrian company to sponsor us, as my bro's wife has Austrian heritage and they love telling the stories about rich Americans rolling up in Austria and asking 'Ok where are all the kangaroos?'
