Question about Jet

You guys might be able to help here. I'm not really a huge listener of music, more a movie buff, preferring to stock up on DVDs than CDs when I visit JB so I often fall out of 'the loop' with bands etc. (Christ, I think Pearl Jam are still the embodiment of "cool")

I find it strange that 2-3 years ago Jet were so huge in Australia. Now they seem to be held with high disdain (Seeing them perform on the Footy Show confirms they have fallen to the lowest rung, such is the fate of many "past-it" performers!)

Why do you think there has been this major backlash against them? Do their songs just suck a whole lot now? Were they over-hyped originally? Has the band suffered from "too popular, too fast" syndrome?

They got away with that for the first album, cause they were new, and everyone loved 'are you gonna be my girl'
When their 2nd album came out many thought/hoped they'd grown music wise, and come up with their own matierial. Hasnt been the case though.

Yep, and you'll see the same thing happen with Wolfmother too. Only they rip off other bands even more closely! This kind of thing can give a band momentary success for a few years, as all the stuck in the past oldies say to themselves 'wow, finally a band comes along that sounds like the 'good old days' '. But the lack of originality tells on them sooner or later, and usually sooner. You're much more likely to see a band like Cog or Karnivool have much longer careers, while possibly not reaching the heights of Jet and Wolfmother, sales-wise....

So true. The brothers are my mates 2nd cousins. When my mate asked for a copy of their Album, they told him to buy it like everyone else. Its family FFS! Absolute tools. I've hated them ever since i heard that story.

im gonna stick up for wolfmother..although the guitar sounds/vocals are very sabbath,wolfmother have never stolen a riff or melody like jet have done several times over.

Support the family? The equivalent of doing that would be to go "here's a dollar" - that's how much Jet would get from the sale of the CD.

i still love jet, and wolfmother for that matter. some of the people that (generally speaking) listen to stations like nova and fox are the sorts of people who grab ahold of some new talent like jet and wolfmother and grow tired as they want they next new band or some shit, and don't listen to the same band for very long.

now don't take that the wrong way - every single person on this board knows someone like what i just described: someone who after the latest popular music 'fad band' and drop it as soon as the next fad band comes along.

i'm sure there are thousands of people like me out there who still dig jet. still better than a large chunk of popular music around today.

I like bands who make music that has influences from past greats, its only natural that a band will make music that is influenced by their favourite artists.

Rock n Roll is not about inventing the wheel.

Oasis = Combination of the Who, Stone Roses, Pistols and to a lessar extent the beatles

Jet = Oasis/The Beatles

Wolfmother = Led Zep, Sabbath

The Killers = Oasis

Muse = Radiohead/U2 (don't deny it you precious Muse fans, Matty Bellamy said U2 was the greatest gig he had ever been to)
