I've finally snapped, I'm sick of Brisbane, sick of Queensland and all the pieces of shit the have agendas that work against me (Yes, I am completely paranoid).

In all seriousness, I am contemplating moving to Victoria to continue my studies. I've always said I would want to have my career (education) in Victoria so it makes sense that I should do SOME study down in the soaking soakville.

Scarily enough, I want to move sooner rather than later, hell, I'd be open to moving for 2011.

Any Vics here know of what Unis I should be looking at? What suburbs good pricing for unemployed student? More importantly, where are the good pubs?

Go down Smith St Collingwood and check out the notices on cafe windows for share accommodation. You may be looking at up to $100 pw for room itself without utilities around there. That is obviously a great area for revelling but it will be 20 pw cheaper if you go to maybe Brunswick (good public transport and also some good pubs) .Can give better reply when you have decided on Uni location.

Monash Uni in Wellington Rd. Clayton....lots of student accom. in the area..not an expensive area...has a shopping strip, railway station....there is a Macca's just up the road for any casual work ..

I drive past the uni on my way to work..

Live in Clayton, go to Monash and also work there. Monash has a good set up for an Education student from elsewhere I'd say (although rent as opposed to living in halls). Only downsides are that Clayton is 40 mins on the train from the City, $35 cab ride from Chapel St or $50 from the city and the uni is pretty competitive to get in to these days.

I'd also be looking at Deakin. Similar location/lifestyle and probably a little easier to get into their Education program which is still pretty good.

I know I'm intruding in the Den here, but as of today I've got a family obligation to support the Lions

I moved to Melbourne at the start of last year from WA. Best move I've made to date.

I transfered to Monash, which is a quality uni with an excellent commerce course and they made the transition remarkably easy. I'm based at Caulfield but theres a campus further out in Clayton which is bigger and offers far more. The other alternative is Swinburne which has skyrocketted in the world rankings, and my partner goes there and really enjoys it. That's in Prahran and Hawthorn.

For living, check out gumtree. I've moved around a bit, but eventually settled in Brunswick. Close to the city, public transport and really anything else I need. Reasonablly cheap too, and lots of young people. Sharing is good if you can find the right people.

For work, try your big chain stores. Working and earning money was really difficult for me because few people want to give you a job and when you do you'll be getting the bare minimum in terms of $$. Apply at all the big chain stores, department stores, bottle shops and fast food outlets. At least there'll be money in your pocket.

It's well worth the move. The people here are awesome, the weather is easy to get used to and theres footy almost every weekend =D
