Yes, it was a great win by the boys today, and over a nemesis team at that. It was a pretty balanced effort, and nobody tore the game open (although Ablett certainly came close). My main concern, though, was Sanderson. It seemed Dixon was the only forward keeping them in the game, and he kept beating Sanderson time and time and time again. I don't want to knock him, but did he seem completely out of his depth, or was Dixon in rare form? The fact that Thompson persisted with him for a good 3(?) quarters only exarcerbated the fact. I know a win is a win, but Sanderson (along with a bunch of others) has not had a good season to date, and I thought today's effort was pretty ordinary indeed. Thoughts?

All the other matchups were correct except for Sando on Dixon.

It was better to leave him playing on Dixon and getting a hiding, than upset the balance of the backline and possibly getting a couple of forwards who were getting flogged into the game.

Having said that, why someone was not coming across more often to cut out the leading space is beyond me.

Regardless of form, Sando won't be dropped. We're not the type of club to drop vice captains.

I actually think we'll just bring in another defender to give Sando a chop out.

It's those leadership responsibilities which may be the only thing keeping Sanderson in the starting 22. If it wasn't for that, he'd be getting a regular run in the 2's, based on his form this season being as up-and-down as it has been.

He's going to need some help, regardless of whether it comes from one of the halfbacks, or if Thompson includes Wocjinski or Hunt in the selection next week (as JubJub hinted at).

Missing a lot of footy last year seems to have stuffed Sando. He just hasn't picked up the pace of the game this year. Would love to see him get back to the form of 2001 but sadly it doesn't look likely at the moment. I think they should drop him, vice captain or not, to see if they can get him into form.

They probably won't-- club politics and all...

I was thinking the same thing about Sanderson missing so much time last season-- has he even recovered from the long layoff?

Sando couldn't do much about Dixon yesterday. As has been mentioned the delivery to him was excellent (the only time it was) and he was marking everything. I noticed that Sando was right with him all the way, which makes Dixon's effort even better that he could mark so well under immense pressure.

I agree with Catman, we have to give some credit to Ben Dixon for his good performance yesterday. It was certainly not his fault that the Hawks were well beaten... lucky for us he was the only forward to win his position.

Oh Dear! How bad does Sando have to get before they give him a run in the seconds? He's a liability the way he's playing at the moment.

Sando's my favourite player, but even I'm hoping he pulls a hammy at training this week. It's about the only way he'll be removed from the senior side.

Is reminds me of Brad Sholl when it was clear he couldn't keep up with the pace of the game in defence and had to be moved to the forward line. Perhaps we should look to do that with Sanderson, otherwise I can't see how he can keep his place ahead of someone like Josh Hunt or David Wojcinski when they are available.
