Nothing would surprise me...but there are so many different voters.

Looking at them there is nothing that sticks out, perhaps only Jakovich giving Taylor 5 and Bonti 3. Any ties there?

I suppose given it was only 1 vote in it at the end it wouldn't have taken much. It's probably more likely to be that he is accused of finding out the answer from his mates on the panel before the betting company found out and was therefore able to win big.

Once again the stupidity and avarice of allowing betting on a wide range of sports - and especially on voted awards - is exposed.

If there's an easy quid to be made there is always going to be a high risk of corruption and criminal activity. This week's revelations about greyhound racing highlight the point.

There's nothing proven in either of these cases of course - at least not yet - but it's only a matter of time before we have an AFL scandal of major proportions.

In fact I'd be surprised if there haven't already been a few quiet financial coups made on awards like the RS and the Brownlow over the years. Every so often you hear whispers. It's just incredibly hard to come up with any solid evidence of wrongdoing or insider trading.

Some commentators like Wallace and King had him penciled in for the rising star mid year. It was always rigged in hindsight.

Look at how the players voted.

What are the chances that 4 or 5 of the selection committee disagreed with 75% of the AFL Players?
Low is the answer. Very very low.

Hey, Fyfe won the MVP, Gray the Coaches award and
Priddis the Brownlow. Different judges = different results.

Taylor and Bontempelli both had great years playing
22 and 16 games for the year. This is more about
David King and potential insider knowledge and influence.

David King was in everyones ear about Lewis Taylor. He had a vested interest - he had what they call skin in the game(.com.au for my website) he had the power to influence. So the question mark is when he put the bet on but I'd argue he was trying his best to manipulate from his media roles(the voters) and possibly, if he could his friends voting('good blokes' though:rolleyes:). We'll never know the truth - you're right, it could be completely innocent.

As my dear old Dad used to say "never bet on anything that can talk".

Looks like there may have been some truth to all the talk on this board of Bontempelli being robbed.

Brisbane were in a bad state at the time hemorrhaging players and exposure. AFL chucked them a publicity bone giving out a inconsequential award like the rising star to ... umm honestly I've already forgotten the kids name?

If David King was stupid enough to bet on it with the fix on then he deserves what he gets.

I agree with this completely.

Bonti was hardly robbed, per the criteria of the Rising Star LT was just as deserving. King's insider trading on the other hand, well that looks very sinister indeed.

Couple of takes:

1. People are seriously underrating Lewis Taylor's season. He was a worthy winner. Considering he played 6 more games than Bont, perhaps a deserving winner.

2. Two conclusions: David King is just stupid OR David King is an astute observer of football and stupid.

3. If you're involved in a professional sport in a playing, administrative or journalistic capacity, don't place your bets using your own betting account in your name.

4. [Slight tangent, but] what sorcery does TAB possess that it's able to identify people that have placed bets in person, without accounts, or alternatively to identify when someone is an associate or family member of an athlete (i.e. Heath Shaw & Nick Maxwell)?

i know i have my bulldogs coloured glassed on , but that award was seriously rigged ! It was an absolute disgrace that Bonts didnt win it. Wouldnt surprise me if there was cheating going on actually in light of the King Article !

The AFL Players Association award to Bonts clearly showed the rising star award up for what it really is ! A farce ! :(

You blokes seriously don't think this do you??

Somehow David King pulled this off with 20 odd others blokes AND then kept it secret so only he could bet on it??

Wow

Old what's his name had the best year of all the Rising Stars. Was brilliant all year and looked like a seasoned veteran all without having much of a pre season. A more than worthy winner. Bonts was third in my reckoning last year after Taylor and Kim Kardashian.

King is just a moron. Don't bet on something you have clear ties to.

Well so far we have no facts on what he did. Let's just see what comes out.

Come on mate this is ridiculous

King was jumping up and down about Taylor in July on SEN.

Then to think he has some pull over blokes like Ling is farcical.

We all think Bonts had a cracker and I'm being honest don't think I saw a single game Taylor played but everything I've heard is the kid can go.

He may at best have got the early call and backed it but to suggest he somehow manipulated the result is bulldog bias of a stunning level.

The issue isn't over the legitimacy of Taylor's win anyway. Purely just on the fact that King bet on it. The "integrity" of his winning is in question, not the award.

Taylor won it fair and square, and people need to move on from that. King was publicly on him well before it was awarded.

I think you have me confused, I have no idea what he did. I'm not suggesting anything. I don't like the award, I think it's contrived and I'm not surprised there could be issues with it. All I'm saying is let's see what he is supposed to have done before we jump at shadows. Bont winning or not is not the issue as far as I'm concerned.
