I think us fans had a realistic view but there is no doubt whatsoever that the coaching team were expecting us to finish much much higher. You only have to look at the messaging from the coach about having all the weapons we need etc.

They’ve certainly all had a reality check and Ferg was about as down in his presser as I’ve ever seen him.

You would expect the messaging to be expressed as positive and upbeat. It's natural to want to keep all parties motivated and spirits high despite the situation being otherwise.

Ferg spinning things is not new, but what you've picked up on is the cracks showing, it started for me after the Bulldogs game and the mentally strong comments, to now this last presser his voice sounds thin, he's way less animated, so his body language and demeanour are falling short of his messaging. So yeah I think your right there expectations for this season were way up there.
