The reality is that currently, on the only metric that counts, we are the 5th best team in the AFL.

You can downplay our losses just as much as you can downplay our wins. Every single team has played shit football this year. The two best teams (Cwood/Brisbane) both have 50+ point losses.

Its an extremely even year.

It's no surprises that the first two to shit on a positive post are you and old 1970.

"we are the 5th best team in the AFL". Just to reiterate, this is the statement that is patently absurd. Where teams are on the ladder after 7 rounds of the season does not determine what number best team they are. That is not reality, it's absolute fantasy. And you know that.

Did anyone notice Muz on the deck alot against Freo? Hope that doesn't become a thing 😬

Posted this during the preseason, I reckon Murry is a little bit overrated around here. Not a criticism of him, he was progressing awesomely before doing his knee. But reality was that it was his trajectory that had us thinking he'd be an A grade KPD, he hadn't actually gotten there prior to the knee intervening. He still has a little bit to go before becoming what most of us thought he'd be.

If we had rearranged the order in which we played teams last year to the same order we're playing them this year, we'd also have been 4-3 and would have ended up 6-4 after 10 rounds

The real question is whether we can beat a team we didn't last year, and thus show improvement. So far the answer is no, and the next test is round 10 then rounds 12-14

The key point is that claiming that the ladder after 7 rounds provides an iron clad quality list in order from 1 to 18 is absolutely absurd. And especially with our position, given there's 6 sides on the same number of wins that are then ordered based on %. If the point put forward was that the ladders states as fact that we're currently one of the 5th to 10th best sides, then I'd still think that a spurious claim. But it's not as stupid as claiming that we're currently the 5th best, purely based on ladder position, and that fact being incontrovertible. It's just idiotic primary school thinking.

Sorry - but being 5th on the ladder after 7 rounds doesn't make you the 5th best team in the league.

He's OUR A-grader, not necessarily AN A-grader 🤭

I find some of the changes suggested a little confusing. For nearly 2 years this Board has identified that a clear indication of the Cluelessness of Nicks was his reluctance to play Dawson and Rankine as full-time inside mids. Now there a quite a few posters calling for Rankine to spend more time forward and to move Dawson to half back.

Imho the first thing we need to do is to select our best midfield. We need to rotate 5 inside mids (some teams leave most of the inside mid minutes to 4 players but I believe 5 is better). Dawson, Rankine, Soligo and Peatling select themselves. Crouchy hasn’t looked his best over the last month. Is it injury or form? The question is who is the next on up. Berry? Draper? Curtin? My preference is to use Curtin and Draper off the bench (I.e. only play them in the midfield).

Assuming Hinge is missing then I would move Nank to half back and bring in Dowling (yes, I know he struggled in the Twos this week).

I am hoping that both Thilthorpe and Fog will play so our front six are the three big boys, Rachele, Keays and ANB

Taylor the Sub.

In - Fog, Dowling

Out - Crouch, Hinge.

Adam Cerra will be AFL case No.3 just this week. Clubs are 0-5 so far this season at the tribunal and have lost 8 on the trot. The odds are against a win and it costs thousands, but this is why clubs keep going to tribunal Tuesday

Is it the same posters that wanted Rankine and Dawson to be mids that are now asking for their removal? I've read posts lamenting their current roles ever since they were deployed, still wanting Rankine more forward and still believing JD is better off half back or wing. That said, if other factors change, remembering that no player goes out there and plays in a vacuum (maybe ROB), then it's not unreasonable to reconsider positions. Personally, I still want Rankine and JD in the middle. But, I have to admit, JD's performance by foot recently is a little concerning. And potentially, a week at half back courtesy of forced change, might just freshen him up a bit. But I've not called for it and reality is Nank will most likely be going back there.

But our best primary midfielders, in my view, is JD, Rankine, Soligo & Peatling. I'd still be wanting to give some minutes to Rachele, Curtin, Draper, ANB, Taylor and even Keays if nothing else is working. All of the primaries can catch a bit of breath ahead of the ball (and behind in Dawson's case) and be that little bit fresher when they're undertaking their primary task. The secondaries get a bit more opportunity to get their hands on the ball and development their skills.

Dawson isn’t exactly in his best form either, that is the reason people are suggesting to move to halfback.
Crouch has no other role he can play.

Are we expecting too much from Dawson?

He was top of the Brownlow predictor after round 6 and is at the pointy end of the coaches votes. Everyone’s disposal was poor in the GWS game. When Kelly, Whitfield, Rankine and Dawson can’t hit 30 metre passes (and Toby missing a soda), I think it says more about the wind than the players skills. Dawson often goes for very difficult passes and not all will be successful. The ones that work can really hurt the opposition.

The main factor is the pressure on our midfielders at the stoppages. We simply couldn’t handle the heat in the first quarter against Freo. Similar story after half time in the Geelong match. Our inside mids need to adjust to the pressure, imho, rather than moving our best inside mids to other positions.

Is it, from the eye and memory test it feels like he’s out in the open (not stoppages that his disposal has been ordinary).
I think he’s definitely trying too much, I don’t think a spell at half back this week if hinge is out would be a bad thing.
Mix things up as the current setup isn’t getting it done.

I just want him getting the ball in space more.

However he's pretty good at contests, so he's doing that a lot, so he's not in space.

He is the proverbial handbreak to our list now. We need to make the call here that nicks won't and will never be our premiership coach.. hard as it will be for the heirachy to admit their faith in him was misplaced
2 premiership coaches without a job at the moment. If we're not in their ears already then t's probably too late.
