A new interpretation of the classic Rainbow Six, the tough-as-nails tactical shooter that asked gamers to carefully plan out the nuance of a breach like a choreographed dance, is in the works, a source familiar with the unannounced Ubisoft shooter tell Kotaku.

We've also heard that the game will in many ways be a departure from the sameness found in Rainbow Six: Vegas and its sequel, and a return to what helped separate the shooter from others of its ilk.

A report over on Kotaku states the next Rainbow Six game may provide players with morality choices in the next yet-to-be-titled iteration in the series.

According to the report, it will contain a more story-driven experience than previous entries in the series, and focuses on a terrorist organization operating within the United States. The cell is run by citizens fed up with a corrupt Wall Street and government, so the malcontents decide to take out their frustrations on New York City.

How the morality system will come into play, is through decisions made by the player as they progress through the game. Since the decision they make affect the path taken through the game, it will take more than one play-through to experience all the levels. The developers are still debating whether the morality system will be included in the game or not.

A demo shown to Kotaku, depicted a stranger who wad kidnapped and bomb-strapped by the US terrorist group. The player steps into the role of this stranger, and must hold down the trigger button to keep from being blown to bits.

Another part of the demo showed the player controlling the Rainbow Six team, which was trying to stop the terrorist cell from detonating a bridge leading into the city. The bomb, is of course, still strapped to the stranger at this point.

Rainbow Six must decide whether to take out the stranger and save the lives the city’s citizens on the bridge or risk it all. One of the choice options shown was the player grabbing the stranger and throwing him off the bridge. He blows up in the process, and you see flashbacks of his life as it happens.

It was reported also, that augmented-reality will allow players to located team members as well as target body parts on enemies, which will give you the option of killing them or just knocking them out cold.

This is the second report regarding Rainbow Six from Kotaku.

Pics have to be fake, surely.

The city in the background is a picture!

Re: Unannounced Rainbow Six Title

As long as it goes back to being more of a tactical game. Vegas was awesome, Vegas 2 tried to take on the run and gun games. It will never beat COD at that, so it may as well try and be a unique type of game.

This, things like sprinting and random respawns really hurt Vegas 2 in the end.

Re: Unannounced Rainbow Six Title

The ever vigilant Fusible has found what may be the name for the next entry in the Rainbow Six series. Rainbow6Patriots.com and RainbowsixPatriots.com were both registered by Ubisoft two days ago.
Following the Fusible report, a NeoGAF member wrote to say that the game will be announced by that name next month in Xbox World Magazine. Says he:

"Last night I got home with the assets; logos, arts, the covers and rendered game screens from a buddy that I know in marketing. I will not going to show anything for the moment as I will let the mag do his work, but what I can tell is that the logo is 6 with the pistol that replace the bottom circle.

The arts backgrounds are with the New York in fire and the renders characters are very similiar to Homefront, yet the clothes are still based with police Rainbow Six gears. What I understood the plot will go between a large group of revolutionary terrorists and of course the police."

Just before E3, sources familiar with the game told Kotaku that the game would try to tell a bigger, grittier cinematic story than past editions of the game.

In a plot outline that is damn timely right now, players will battle a home-grown terrorist group targeting Wall Street, angered by financiers’ greed and a government that protects it. The game will feature a cover system that takes you out of a first-person perspective and into a third-person view.

Ubisoft’s announced Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Patriots following much pre-announce speculation on the game, confirming a 2013 release on PS3, 360 and PC.

The game, mainly made by Ubisoft Montreal with collaborations between Ubisoft Toronto and Ubisoft Red Storm, will see a “dynamic single-player storyline” that will be told from multiple characters.

R6: Patriots wil pull the series, which has sold 25 million units LTD, in “an exciting new narrative direction,” according to Ubi creative director David Sears. “This adds an unprecedented level of humanity that will make Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots an extremely tense and immersive experience.”

Team Rainbow’s threat are a group of terrorists known as the ‘True Patriots,’ who claim the American government has been compromised by corrupt politicians and corporate interests.

As Rainbow, you’ll need to make “tough ethical decisions” in order to stop them, confirming previous rumours of making morality choices.

Patriots will also include “innovative” co-op and multiplayer segments. While it isn’t mentioned in the press release, the game will also support Kinect in some form, following the announcement back in June at E3 that all future Tom Clancy titles would support the motion controller.

*Not actual gameplay footage.

?????
From what I can tell it's a complete CGI pre-render of what they would've likely pitched as the game (the game is still at least 1 and a half years off, so plenty of time to actually be working on the game). It's similar to that first ever footage of Killzone 2, none of that was running of a game engine, was all pre-rendered work for the devs to get to.

I love how they even put in the trophy icon and sound.:p

Pretty heavy footage though, seemed decent. Got a real Heavy Rain vibe too.

New info was also released today. According to a press release, the game will include:

Unprecedented narrative – Patriots’ storyline explores an ultra-realistic what-if scenario inspired by real events and characters. The game will allow players to experience events from multiple perspectives creating an unprecedented level of immersion.

A new threat for a new team – Terrorism has evolved and Team Rainbow must face an organized militia of home-grown insurgents. As the leader of a new squad, players will wrestle with difficult ethical decisions and determine if the doing-whatever-it-takes mentality is needed to stop the enemy.

Enhance squad management – At the press of a button, the Rainbow squad will perform the most efficient and deadly tactic given the context of the situation. When extreme measures are required, or when players call for it, you can take full control of your squad to plan the perfect assault.

Evolved combat – The game’s combat techniques have been pushed to the next level with cover and weapon systems redesigned to accommodate every combat situation. New Rappel and Breach mechanics are now enriched with multiple new techniques including Wall & Ceiling Breach, Fast Rope Rappel, inverted ‘Aussie Style Rappel’, Infiltrate & Subdue, to name a few.

Intense multiplayer experience – Players will be rewarded for working as a team and mastering the game’s new features that enhance communication and tactical execution between teammates. Once such feature found in the pre-game online lobby is the Sandtable, a holographic display that helps acquaint players with the level maps before they jump into the action. This will help players strategically coordinate attacks and add a new dimension to squad tactics.

Surprise and overpower enemies – Utilize the game’s new Scan mode to strategically breach and infiltrate areas. This new tool will provide a thermal read on the situation, allowing you to determine the squad’s best course to overwhelm and defeat enemies.
