I'm a bit confused. Has Rama fully got through his illness? Can playing risk a re-lapse in some way? I'm in the dark about this issue and would like some info on his current condition (if anyone fully knows )

His leg injury seems to be healed and he's training as normal by the looks of it,but will he play this year? Has anyone got the complete full picture of his fitness status?

Playing wont effect it in anyway, the trouble has been the tumour has been very close and in some places attached to the nerves (hence the reason they had to brek the collor bone to get at it)which if damaged could cause obvious problems.
The concern has always been how much nerve damage there would be after the latest opperation.

Saw him in local supermarket the other day and am happy to say looks reasonably well apart from being a little underweight and less muscular. Here's hoping for a speedy return and good run of health as he is a great bloke and fine example to younger kids...

BBlitz training report said the other day that Rama looked tired.

Is he going to play this year?

If so, when will be the earliest?

Is he fit enough? Did he do all the testing after the NY?

Has his cancer completely gone for now?

I think they are hoping he can play some games for Bendigo later in the year but it is not certain he will play at all this year.

Well,at least I know now.Thought he might be playing soon.At least he's on the track and running around.:thumbsu:

If Rama could play just one more game to finish off his career, then i would be a very happy man and i could see that being a emotional day.

I think thats what may happen. He may decide that he needs to prove to himself that he can do it, in a similar way to Jason McCartney.

I think you could be right. I hope he gets back and plays permanently but if he gets back for one I wouldn't miss it for the world. There wouldn't be a dry eye in the house. If he never plays then lets just pray he wins his battle and lives a healthy life.

So,is it safe to say that he will never play again full time?

If so,why is he still on the list then and still training?

I'm still a bit in the dark here:eek:

In more ways than one :p

i know what you are discussing nobs , but the fact is , footy is only a bit part in this play .... sometimes we need to be reminded of this ... see Belinda Emmet .

Purely humaniatrian that he is still on the list in some way , one of the few things the AFL has got right and hats off to them on this one .

As much as the old coot Sheedy gets up my nose lately , he has been a very wise , intelligent old fox on this one . Benefits Rama still being able to be involved , and as a role model and mentor , none better then Adam with his trials and tribulations for the kiddies .

for mine ... just a win/win for all concerned and handled beautifully

i just hope he gets through it

not sure if anyone had posted this..

Essendon's Adam Ramanauskas has described as 'scary and exciting' the prospect of returning to full training after undergoing 10 months of chemotherapy.

The 2000 premiership player's career has effectively been put on hold since he was diagnosed with a form of cancer, fibramatosis, in his shoulder and neck in 2003.

The condition has recurred twice in different forms in the period since but his doctors are pleased with the prognosis after a six-month course of treatment and have given him the all-clear to resume his AFL career.

"I was a bit of a guinea pig for their clinical trial," Ramanauskas said before training at Windy Hill on Wednesday.

"I actually lasted the longest of any of the participants they had in the trial. They're still collecting information from me about how I recovered from the drugs they gave me."
Ramanauskas, who was shifted from the club's senior list to rookie list at the end of last season with the permission of the AFL, is now taking on about half the workload at training after having done no exercise at all while undergoing treatment.

He said he hopes to be 100 per cent involved by the end of February.

"I was excited but at the same time a little scared. I thought and knew I was going to be far behind the rest of the group and that was what concerned me the most."

"I didn't want to hold them back in their training and be the one right off the back of the pack, but they've really looked after me out there, the boys."

The 26-year-old said his primary aim is to get fit and stay healthy and that a return to football remains a secondary goal.

"A senior return would mean your life back where it was before it all started but a bigger present for me would be for the doctors to give me the total all-clear.

"I would take that any day over a senior match of football."

And while the prospect of a full recovery remains strong his doctors have told Ramanauskas that there is a five-year window during which he remains at risk.

"If I do go for my next scan and its back, I can't do anything about it."

"I've got to keep living and moving on."

That's a good interview with the champ. Sounds like he won't play this year for sure. The club is fantastic for letting him train and remain on the list, staying involved. It must be great for his mental outlook to keep busy and be useful at WH. Would have hated to see him retire last year and hear of him just sitting at home.

Admire the guy for his guts and determination, but surely he has played his last game of senior footy?? Would be amazed if he played at the highest level again.

Its easy to think that, but he has age on his side....so if he wants it bad enough, and with some luck.....
