ADAM Ramanauskas wants to play football again.
As "Rama" calls on all his mental strength in his fight with cancer, his heart tells him he will again play for his beloved Bombers.
Ramanauskas was floored by the recurrence of the disease.
He recently completed radiotherapy and has begun chemotherapy.
Doctors are using a trial drug and Ramanauskas has complete faith in the treatment. "I know I can beat this," he said.
Ramanauskas is constantly asked if he believes he can play at the elite level again. While stressing his health is the main thing, his intentions are clear. "Make no mistake, I want to play AFL football again," he said.
Ramanauskas is working with young people in his role with the Essendon Football Club's community affairs department, where "putting a smile on their faces puts a smile on mine".
He has been reluctant to conduct media interviews because he is anxious his battle against the disease is not seen as heroic, saying that every day he sees people in much worse shape than him.
"Everyone fighting this disease is brave and courageous. I am known because of my football, that's the only difference," he said.
But the Bombers premiership player felt it was his duty to help raise the awareness of Sunday's Clash for Cancer, when the Bombers meet the Demons at Telstra Dome.
He said he would do whatever he could to help the fight against cancer and to eliminate the thinking that cancer was an "automatic death sentence".
"Medical advances mean mean things have improved dramatically," he said.
Fundraising activities will be held inside and outside the stadium and all money raised will go to the Cancer Council, which is the Essendon Football Club's preferred charity.

He is such a fantastic genuine guy.
Doesn't want to 'hog' the spotlight because he has cancer..doesnt want to be treated any different..(unlike some other footy players).
It would be great for him to make a return and the fact that he is thinking about it is even better..good to know he is still very positive and not giving up.
I hope that all goes well for him,
and that he does keep fighting it,
and perhaps one day if he can and wants to..makes a return to football
Good on ya Adam,
you're a champion!
I still wear my #9 with pride!!
