This may sound really stupid , but rance will look alot better as our team improves.

As we have seen so far this year rance is now kicking to players on their own rather than to contested situations where our players were a 50/50 chance at best.

In my mind he is physicaly the perfect 3rd tall option that is extremely quick and nimble for a 194cm 93kg player.

He can play on both medium & big Fowards

But The Kid Has Bawls !

As I suggested when he was rubbed out. It was a bad thing at the time, but the benefits will be reaped later on. Go and ask the whole bummer fwd line who to a man shat themselves when the Ranca was hunting them down.
I had to laugh with one incident in the first. Monfries had a break on him at HF close to the boundary, Ranca gathered him in and was just waiting like a prowling tiger, for Monfries to take possession and then crunch. Turned to my mate and said, **** he nearly broke him in half... as for the other bummers, to a man, they all took second looks when they saw the big no 18 prowling...
He will give us head aches, purely because he will get his share of injuries because he will run through brick walls and anything else that gets in his way.
Have to say also he has perfected the taking his man under the flight of the ball..;)

Rance was epic. My biggest criticism of him has been his kicking, but last night along with everything else he did well was his kicking. I think there was that much pressure, he could not think and he seemed to play a little more instinctively. I was watching from TV, so you can only pick up the pressure so much but that's what it seemed from the living room (it is all so easy commenting on the couch).

Keep him FB please, now the hunt for a CHB begins, Astbury really needs some mongrel in him to become a solid defender

Grimes once he gets 5 kilos on him will be more than solid, Lukey Mcgaune is just filling in time now

Being at the game last night i made special purpose of watching rance. All i can say is that we might have a slight upgrade on Darren Gaspar. Good or bad you decide.

Struggled because of the conditions (kept getting to the right position to chop off a kick, but spilling it), but still clearly beat his opponents. Nowhere near as bad as some others, including some who are rated as future superstars of the game.

How much responsibility should the midfield's complete lack of defense take for the pressure Rance was constantly under? He's still only 21 and played 30 games, McGuane was pretty much unsighted the entire night, at least Rance was trying to get the ball out.

Thankyou infamy, Rance cops alot on this board and while some of it is deserved, most of the time it isnt the blokes fault.

By no means am I saying he is the answer, he can play in our premiership side, but i wouldnt think it would be the kpd that takes the best foward every week, itd be some sort of third string defender role. I dont think we have anyone capable of being that kpd, grimes is good but a bit small, i think that kpd we need is yet to be drafted to the club.

Back to the topic, rance cops alot, but he is constantly put under pressure by poor defensive efforts by players up the ground as well as little support from mcguane, and now no grimes exposes a guy who only has 30odd games of experience, he needs a bit of slack cut, we keep forgetting that whilst midfielders can be individually brilliant to an extent, defenders dont tend to shine individually (even the games current best defenders) i think defenders are as good as the unit they are a part of, and the support they get IMO

I agree. Our midfield was completely unaccountable and all bar Foley were well down on their usual ouput.
I thought Rance battled on manfully.

watched the game again and he was greta in crap conditions and no midfield pressure. really him and houli were are our best two defenders. (houli alot of run carry and great hit ups)

I'll have a crack at answering this one.Absolutely 100% responsibility is what they should take.

Having not seen last nights game I can just picture it like all games this year.
What the bloody hell is going on? I understand that the focus this season is on attack but seriously we are going to get some massive hidings coming to the business end of the season. There is zero focus on defensive set ups at stoppages and if we don't get hands on the footy we just get embarrassed.

I hope I don't keep reading and hearing about our gun midfield or as our old mate would say I'll spew up.

Actually thought apart from Rances brain fade where he turned it overfor a goal he was quite good again. The ball was coming in with no defensive pressure....makes it hard for Rance.

Under the circumstances i thought rance was very good again, Apart from that 1 turn over that resulted in a goal he didnt do much wrong with the amount of pressure the backline was under.

i thought he was good, he did turn it over that one time in the last quarter but otherwise was pretty good, he actually kept his feet unlike his opponent and beat his opponent.
