Does Nic Nat ever solo ruck? Not a dig or anything I just don't watch enough of Wet Toast (LMAO) to know.
He did two weeks ago and gathered 22 touches (the most of any ruckman this year).

Oh, and that's AA ruckman Nic Naitanui to you.

Good stats those. Every time I watch the Eagles though I notice him being in the wrong places a whole lot. Nice ability in the ruck but i'd take Lobbe around the ground any day.

I'm also glad Port has a gun midfield so Lobbe doesn't have to acquire 22 touches in a game.

Apparently he doesn't get enough touches though, go figure! People notice Naitanui being in the "wrong places" because they're always looking for him and he stands out. Watch any other ruckman behind play and I can guarantee you they won't be doing anything different to what Naitanui does, yet no other ruckman can do what Naitanui does in the contest.

To say Lobbe doesn't have to acquire 22 touches because you have a gun midfield is just stupid. Cox was averaging over 20 touches in our premiership year with Judd, Cousins, Kerr, Fletcher, Stenglein, Braun, etc. Was it because he had to? No, it was because he's a good player.

I'm not going to pretend I can rebutt this because I don't watch West Coast nearly enough. Not that I would force myself to do that shit. I would like to know the thing you say Naitanui can do in a contest that no one else can though.

Anyway, I would love to know how he would develop without injuries.

Win the tap (oh, if you haven't seen his tap-work you're missing out, it's a thing of beauty), follow it up by getting the ball himself or receiving a handball, bust through the pack and outrun every midfielder.

His follow up tackling when the opposition get the ball from the ruck is also ferocious.

From his 2012 AA year (hasn't been fully fit since):

1st for tackles for a ruck
2nd for marks
1st for contested marks
2nd for goals
1st for contested possessions
2nd for % of hit outs won
2nd for % of hit outs to advantage
1st for hit outs leading to a score

No other ruckman was top 5 for more than 2 of these stats.

I see Lobbe do this to huge effect every week though, minus bursting out of a pack and outrunning midfielders, but that doesn't really matter since he can dish it out fast enough on a running midfielder anyway. His ground work/second efforts are up there with the best in the league.

Naitanui can also dish it off to a running midfielder. He can also land a 20 metre hit out on a midfielder's lap.

His ground work may be up with the best, but Naitanui's is the best.

I doubt Lobbe could make our midfield look 50% better the way Naitanui does.

I don't even know how anyone could measure that. Wouldn't swap Lobbe and Naitanui to try it myself, either.

Nat is hard to compare to anyone anyway.

Lobbe isn't even near Naitanui's level.
