well what does everyone think?despite the fact that they had a lot of gimmicks such as the face paint and the smoke bombs and pryro they are a great live band and anyone who has listened to Alive 1 or 2 would agree, the original line up still the best and hopefully they will put thier differences aside again for one final show

Its funny..I never appreciated Kiss until I was a lot older. There was this Queen-Kiss war going on in much the same way as Sherbet - Bay City Rollers.

I think they have a great body of work and ''I'' is one of their better songs for mine

Their songs are simple but good... but the gimmicks, sh*t-talking and money-grabbing have seen their credibility drop in recent years IMHO, but that shouldn't take away from what they have achieved over 30+ years as good songwriters and stage performers.

Favourite albums from someone who is not a fan per se, but is familiar whith a lot of their stuff and has a few CDs... : Dressed to Kill, Destroyer, Dynasty, Revenge

I was never interested in KISS because when I was young it was all about the gimmicks. But my husband is a big fan of theirs and I've heard a fair bit of their stuff and they definitely are a quality band, much better than I'd expected. :thumbsu:

....just incase anyone missed the other 100 final ever shows.

One can only judge Kiss on their success as a package.

Some of their earlier stuff was somewhat influential, at least to the hard rock genre.

Not sure how you can put KISS and hard rock in the same sentence?

C ock rock, bubblegum rock, cherry rock, yes. Hard, no.

if you haven't seen kiss live then you don't understand, surely. they are a great live band, their concert is like a big party, a big show, great fun. i really rate them, for what they do, they rock.

hard rock was different in the 70's than it is now, they can definitely be considered hard rock in their time i think.

Absolute garbage and one of the pioneers of over-commercialism in music.

In summary, I hope they rot in hell.

They're about having a good time, just don't think about it too much. over-commercialism, over-merchandising, who really cares? it's all part of the show/image/whatever.

Quite clearly i care. If you choose not to think, that's a fault with your personality, not mine.

Choose not to think? We're talking about Kiss here. Kiss have to be taken in a certain context. We're not talking about a piece of high-art to be poured over like the mona lisa. If you over-analyse them of course you're going to think they're a bad band.

So basically you're saying only stupid people would like them?

I can't turn being intelligent 'off' it's my normal, natural state. And it gets offended deeply by sometihng as cheesy as artistically void as KISS.

I don't necessarily disagree.

i really rate them, for what they do, they rock.
If you think so. But please don't be under any illusion that they have a typical or hard rock sound. They don't. That's why their genre is referred to as those ones I mentioned earlier.

Not at all.

70s hard rock: Zeppelin, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Sabbath

70s/80s bubblegum rock: Kiss, Loverboy, Stryper, Bon Jovi, Poison

There's two different sounds. One group has a harder and more "rock" sound that the other.

No I'm not, if you were as intellegent as you say then you'd understand what I mean! How'd you draw that conclusion from what i said?

You alluded to a need to switch off my brain in order to enjoy what they do. their music, quite plainly, sucks date. The fact they are also corporate whores, and in fact pioneers of corporate whoring, just makes them even worse.

Everyone's in it for the money.

I'm sure there's similar artists in rap, and everything else, that are the same. It's just as legit to want to make something that makes people jump up and down as it is to make an elaborate political statement.

Of course it is, and if the thing that makes people jump up and down is still good then awesome, I enjoy music like that.

But when the music sucks, AND they're in it for the money only, it really irks me. It's the double whammy of crapness.

Especially when KISS were one of the pioneers of this double whammy.

That's just naive - the music can suck but still appeal to a bunch of idiots with poor taste through a combination of good marketing and a lack of diversity in the gene pool.

If you like KISS you have poor taste in music.
