Just picked up the Hun and stumbled across it.

D: Goddard, Shaw, Hodge, Hurley, Kennelly, Hayden, Hunt (Ladson, Maguire)
M: Ablett, Selwood, McVeigh, Cotchin, Scully, Trengove (Martin, Howlett)
R: Sandilands, Hille (McEvoy, Warnock)
F: Riewoldt, Brown, S.Johnson, Buddy, Medhurst, Ballantyne, Gumbleton (Roberts, Pods)

I think he used a strategy like this last year with money on the pine. He did finish the season relatively well IIRC with this type of structure, but some of his selections seem perplexing to say the least.

One would think Kevin would have learnt from his selection of Hayden last year. He must want to get burnt again. And Gumby as a 7th forward...Please. His midfield is shit and he's starting with 2 suspended players and a player with a club imposed suspension. Going to be a long season for you Mr. Sheedy. We can all tell you're not playing for overall

Edit: Where's his favourite son Kepler and last years special Wells??? Wells has shown more this preseason than last and he picked him last year

I give it a 6/10
Any thoughts???

You think Sheedy's team will be better than half the field this year? I doubt it.

Yes I do. I'm not sure exactly where he finished last year but it definately would have been top 20K, probably higher. My rating was on his starting team, not where he will finish. He will finish top 20K easily, which equates to top 7% if 300K start. As stated his finish to last season was strong. If you think he will finish around halfway you are way off. There are so many bad teams and strategies out there and then add in people who give up

Hurley looks a superstar but isn't playing AFL football any time soon.

Buddy isn't playing round 1. His forward line is very hit and miss in general.

I like the pick of Cotchin. At some stage he's going to light it up.

Clear weakness is the head coach, who plays favourites and has to justify any moves he makes publicly. This means he takes a soft approach to underperforming players or horrendous, unrecoverable hacks (hi, Kepler), whereas the rest of them just cut their throat and never mention them again.

It's fine, it's solid, but it's not winning my league.

I don't reckon Sheeds would be concerned with winning the entire competition. I'd say his priorities would be:

  • a team that's competitive in league games all year long - so he has something to write about in his columns, and
  • a side that doesn't dominate in all the leagues he's added too.

Hence lots of $ on the bench, and picking players n/a for round one, but will allow him to conserve trades once the league seasons kick off (Hurley, McVeigh, Buddy)...

Why would the Herald Sun want Sheeds in the top 10% of teams entered? He'd be slaughtering teams he plays week in, week out.

I wonder if this team allegedly hand picked by Sheedy is deliberately average so that it keeps the profile up through discussions like this about how bad it is and so that people during the year can get off on beating Sheedy.

Are we getting sucked in to a marketing ploy every year?

Quite possibly but I'm still not going to show any remorse after slaughtering him, Providing he trades somewhat solidly he be around the 20k mark
