I thought watching the game why the hell our Number 1 defender Jamison did not take Roughhead at all during the match. A few people I know thought the same and its now being discussed on radio. When Roughhead outmarked O'Halipin to slot his fourth for the opening quarter it made me furious. Instead Jammo was on Campbel Brown??

Simple point is Jamison should of been on Roughhead. Easy to say in hindsight i know, but I think Ratten didn't play the percentages right on this one.

I think the reason Jamison did not start on Roughead or get moved to him was because his shoulder is still an issue and they are nursing him through a few games.

I haven't seen him in any marking contest go the spoil from a pack and that is what he would have been doing if he was on Roughead all day.

In every game there will be some key match up that doesn't quite work.

I presume they are nursing Jamison through games because his shoulder is still no good and I think can only spoil with one arm. If this is not the case Ratten stuffed up big time. Jamison is the obvious choice for Roughead but there must be something wrong with Jamison still. You could say Jamison not being fully fit caused him not to play on Roughead and that cost us the game.

Shoulders are stuffed, will only play on the oppositions third best forward for the rest of the season...needs surgery eventually but the club are going to nurse him through....after finding this out i cant see who benefits out of this in the short run, he is our best defender and should be on the best forward if he cant do that get the surgery done now!

I must say i was surprised he didn't play on roughy but the shoulder theory sounds right.

It's a shame for you because he has been really impressive over the last 12 months.

Jamison is a FULL-Back. He doesnt add much value if he is playing on Michael Osborne or Cambell Brown, 2 players who arent going to kick bags of goals, and Jammo doesnt offer much offensively. I know i am his biggest fan but dont play him until he is right. We need him 100% to beat the top forwards in the game.

I'm glad someone started a thread like this, because I think I’m losing a bit of confidence in Ratten - can't believe I've said that.

Remembering we have 3 x no.1's, C.Judd, B.Fevola, N.Stevens and a potenial All-Australian in J.Waite - Can't be too hard coaching these players??

R1 - Any one can coach against Richmond!!
R2 - Pretty much had the game in the bag - There was a slight concern when Jamo went down - Can't do much here because Jamo is one hell of a player to the replace - Go Jamo!
R3 - Without Jamo we needed another tall to stop Lloyd (Lloyd killed us) - OhAilpin was in-form and was left in the 2's. Joseph is supposed to our run-with player (is he?) and I never saw him once (Was drunk watching this game may have got this statement wrong??) on Lovett or Davey - they killed us again! - F*#K I hate Essendon
R4 - Why didn’t he move Judd forward when McVeigh was on top??
R5 - The Dogs were jetlagged - easy kill for the boys!
R6 - Brings in Bentley - WTF?? Also was wondering why the hell he didn’t move Jamieson on Roughhead!! Jamo played on Williams who is out of form - Browne could have been brought in for this role, allowing Thornton to play in his best position on the 3rd tall??

...and he consistently plays Cloke, Russell, Wiggins, Joesph & Houlihan - without given these blokes some time to think about their form in the 2's!!

Roughy is much heavier than Jamo. Would have been beaten convincingly one-on-one.

Rubbish.

Jamo is our best 1-on-1 backman. Did you not see him control Bradshaw (who is stronger than Roughead) until he did his shoulder ? Did you not see Bradshaw then carve up Bower ?

Jammo's playing injured. I'd back him to stitch up Roughead any day when he's fully fit.

Whenever I find myself a little mystified at some of the decisions ahat are made, I remind myself of a couple of things:

1. Ratts played 250-odd games of AFL, including captaining the greatest club in the land, wining multiple B&Fs at that club, winning a B&F in a premierhsip year, and winning an AFLPA MVP award. As a result, he knows a lot more than me (and you) about the caper.

2. These guys have access to A LOT of info that we don't have access to. With regard to just one point you raised, did you know that 3 of Roughead's first-half goals on Thornton came as a direct result of our blokes turning the ball over whilst trying to move it forward, and that Thornton (as would be the case with SOS or Langford or Scarlett or whoever) therefore had no chance whatsoever of doing anything about them ?

Let's give the blokes in charge a bit of credit for knowing what they're doing. I'm not really interested in reading any posters' criticisms of Ratts or the MC unless their playing/coaching credentials at least match Ratts'.

FWIW, i was shocked that Bentley was preferred to Hadley, and i'm pretty confident that a lot of the things Bentley stuffed up would've been handled much better by Hads BUT the MC obviously had some good reason for their decision, and it was probably based on stuff that i and most other Blues fans simply do not know.

I agree that Jamison should have been played on Roughhead.

Apart from his recovering shoulder, could another factor be Roughead's dominant performance on Jamison in the NAB cup?

Bradshaw is a fast leading full forward. Roughead is a brick like contested marker who can also lead.

Jamo isn't the right match up - he is a quick negator. Roughead would have sat in a hole and taken contested marks and Jamo wouldn't have been able to touch him. Jamo is often very useful for smalls. Like he was yesterday.

But that said, Jamo would have done better than T-Bird.

Jamo = negating defender
Thornton = 3rd tall
Bower = 3rd tall, would be more negating if he weighed more.

DESPERATELY need a big bodied stopper down back.

There's a lot of wrong in your post J.

Nearly every goal Bradshaw kicked on Bower was a result of plonking himself where the ball was going to drop and being immovable and holding Bower out of the way and marking the ball. They weren't marks on fast leads.

Bower beat Buddy on the weekend. Buddy is not a 3rd tall. He also flogs Travis Cloke when he plays on him. Trav is not a 3rd tall.

And I'll tell you again, Jamo will beat Roughy any day when he is fit. He's a future AA FB.
