Over the last couple of years we have always seemed to miss out on the "big fish" .Barry Hall and Joe Misiti sre 2 that imediately spring to mind .As far as i can see we have done everything right to get Jade . Please let this be the one.

If Rawlings chooses us, that puts us in the box seat as far as trading is concerned. We would be able to dictate what we're prepared to give up knowing that Hawthorn will be desperate to get some sort of deal done, otherwise he'll go into the pre-season draft, we'll still get him but they'll get nothing. :)

Yeah North have upped their offer according to todays paper and he's delayed his decision to consider it.

Brotherly love.

A tad unfortunate, perhaps Geelong should push for an increase on their salary cap or a preferential zone selection?

If you think about it, we've struggled to lure Misiti, Murphy (was disgruntled) Rawlings and plenty of others. Nobody wants to come down the highway sounds reasonable to me :p

Unfortunately, we don't come from a developing state or can claim cost of living expenses.... in other words, we're not a charity case so I doubt the AFL would do that.

It's not over yet though with Rawlings... the Roos still need to find the money to be able to afford him and with McKernan likely to be traded back to them, they still have to find the right trade.

North only paid 92.5% of their salary cap this year and have plenty of room to move. Plus we (Nth Melb) have more trade bait as far as players go (eg more depth in the squad with expendable experienced yet reasonably young players). On the other hand - Geelong do have an earlier draft pick. Geelong also have room in the cap (Rawlings simply picks up Mitchell White's huge salary bill)

Even though Rawlings will make his call today - Hawthorn make the final call. It will come down to the best value trade for them and what either North or Geelong are prepared to give away (ie players/draft picks).

Seems to be very little difference in the offers to Rawlings. On the upside - if he goes to Arden St, he'll get to play with his brother (not sure how important that is to him). The other factor to consider - is which club represents his best chance to play footy in the last week of September. Based on recent form and current talent pool - Nth Melb again have the edge (although I 'm sure any one eyed Geelong fan will refute this).

Even if he (Rawlings) does chose North - it doesn't make it a 'done deal'. Still comes back to what trades are deemed as acceptable by the Hawks.

We'll find out soon enough.

Apparently not.

If he choses North Melbourne, then they are in the driving seat in terms of bargaining. Hawthorn have to take virtually what they are given otherwise he'll just go into the pre-season draft.

What about the fact that we can't lure any players down the highway? Football is all the town talks about, the AFL would be stupid not to help us out.

EDIT: Tounge in cheek :)

I agree with you Shaitan, but the AFL's priority has always been those charity cases in the Northern States and developing the game there by making those teams successful. The AFL couldn't give a rats arse about the only country-based club in the competition, and I can't see them changing their thinking in the near future.
