was positively wrapt to see that Rawlo hasn't been part of the coaches box this season...was in the grandstand the other night..GOOD...with the deporable position we find ourselves in, he'd do well to consider a completley different approach, the fact his exposure has been limited to training and behind scenes stuff should augur well for a NEW path:thumbsu:

Twig's greatest strength? He's got an amazing football intelligence.

Twig's greatest weakness? He's got an amazing football intelligence.

One of those people that just understands the game. I can see him being very good at game-day and preparatory type tactics, but have my doubts as to how he'll go at 'developing' players, and longer-term strategic type decisions.

If he can surround himself with good assistants, (perhaps some recently retired ex-hawk, ex-kanga, ex-doggy players for outside 'flavour') - then I think he could be very good for you.

In that regard, he may be similar to Wallace (for all his faults, TW was a better than average tactical coach).

are you talking about untill the end of this year or the following years?

I think he's the best choice for a competitive, exciting young team for the rest of this year, as it suits his strengths (gameday, tactical innovation, youth).

I don't know how he'll deal with players over time, whether he has the 'developmental' nature to his coaching, and whether he can 'sit back' and play in ways that are sub-optimal now for future benefit.

That said, how many coaches show experience at rebuilding before being given the job?

Clarkson's the only one I know of to rebuild a struggling team to a premiership prior to taking on a top job. (in the SANFL).

my thoughts exactly. i would have accepted keeping wallace if everyone behind him was replaced to improve the developmend and training. from the sounds of it twig is similar to TW in his style, although with probably a better gameplan. if he becomes the coach next year we may very well have gone nowhere.

I wish Rawlo the best of luck, unsure about his achievments as couburgs coach but i do no he was a terrible footballer for the dogs, Had great leadership and an amazing football brain. Thats all you need in a coach ey, think he will fit the position very well( As long as his not teaching how to kick straight).

i think he might just suprise a few of us, get his first win in his first game, and if im wrong and we loose every game, then we get a priority pick.

LOL, bit early to be a nickname basis with the coach 3 day old coach I would have thought:eek:

Heh Heh... that's the first thing I picked up on when I saw the post. I'm happy with the appointment of Rawlings for the reasons Bo outlined. Proof will be in the pudding now I guess.

an appointment that suggests the board looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders and said, WTF do we do now. Well, take it from Cogga board dudes, first thing you might want to consider, after a completely shitful season, is maybe refund the money all those poor tigerheads poured into the "grand final ticket guarantee" ruse. There is no ****ing way known that all and sundry could have got it so wrong in their prognosis of the season. If they did then their decision making is one big pile of shit and this is another descision to add to the pile. Very concerning to say the least. ;)
