- 1:30am yesterday morning (I think) - Police say 2:30am
- Suspension and fine as I stated above.
- Gary spoke to Andrew Demitrio (Sp?) this morning. Explained that it was a minor altercation. Ray had been to the movies that night with an ex-player, then went to have dinner and then to a club. Ray had been drinking (hasnt been drinking all this year) and no one got hurt over a pool game. Club takes the matter seriously.
- Past player was Greg Stafford
- Gary expects that players shouldnt be out early in the morning drinking.
- Greg Stafford wasn't involved in the incident.

You could say that there were 2 past players involved.
Barring injury to our backmen, I think we've seen the last of Ray.
No great loss.

if my playing career was hanging by a thread, I wouldn't be putting myself in that position.
Funny how he with Stafford. Two players born and bred in NSW and both have stated that they have never 'loved' Aussie Rules.

I had a wonderful dream last night about a turnover in the richmond backline that was scooped up by a running backman and kicked to a running target 55m away on the wing and whisked into the forward line for a goal. Sadly this won't happen with Ray, Gaspar and Tivendale all playing in the backline/wing...... Oh wait.

The Picture released with the article on the AFL website. IMO doesn't really some up the situation:rolleyes: .

It's actually good that the club can use him to set an example to the youngsters. We wont miss him but hopefully the cubs will learn from his experience.
Polo first and now Hall. Make them totally accountable.

that is a brilliant photo. probably sums him up as a player perfectly.
i still remember the day he had 20 touches and kicked 3 goals against the hawks a few years ago. where did that form go??

i still remember the day he had 20 touches and kicked 3 goals against the hawks a few years ago. where did that form go??

It was the last time he spent any time away from defense BRH - one half in the last four seasons. Three goals straight in a half (two from outside 50), came off the bench drop dead exhausted then ran his guts out to get 20m clear of his opponent and set up the winning goal...collecting a brownlow vote along the way.

The few chances he's had to play away from defense, he's almost always grabbed the opportunity with both hands and well and truly outperformed those around him.

In 2001 against Brisbane, he backed Gale up in the ruck and shared the forward line with Richo. Richo kicked 3:4 - Hall kicked three straight playing just part of a game at CHF.

Come finals time 2001, as a 20yo he came off the bench, picked up 16 possessions, kicked a vital goal from his only opportunity, and totally ironed out Camporeale - as much the turning point of that game as Scotty Turner's memorable finals hit in '95.

Contrast this with (for example) Pattison, who at 21 hasn't come within bull's roar of these performances (and quite probably never will), can't ruck yet, can't play forward yet, and was a first round draft pick in a 'super draft' - compared to Hall, who was a 5th round speculative pick in an ordinary draft, and a year younger.

In 2002 against Sydney, Hall kicked 4:1 and picked up 3 brownlow votes in a side beaten by 40 points (how often does that happen?). He rotated with Ottens (1 goal) and Stafford (2 goals) in the ruck, and shared the forward line with Richo (1 goal).

First up in 2003 he had 14 hitouts and kicked 2 goals in a well beaten side, then limped through the few games he played for the rest of the season injured.

From then on, he's somehow been expected to go from being a young 2nd ruckman/tall utility/forward, to being the club's number one key defender. He got saddled with the job because he was the only option - all other key defenders (Morrison, Weller, Vardy, Zantuck) failed miserably compared to Hall's efforts, while our other talls were either injured (Gaspar), traded (Holland), or simply too inflexible, one dimensional, or downright useless to even be considered for the job.

Only a side that has recruited incredibly poorly expects a 5th round draft pick, 196cm backup ruckman showing good ability as a CHF, to suddenly become a key defender after zero training, then outsprint and outperform the best forwards in the league week in week out. It's akin to throwing Pattison or Graham to the wolves tomorrow and expecting them to somehow become a champion key defender - although Hall got the job in a rock bottom side with the worst midfield in modern history.

Which side today wouldn't jump at a 5th round pick who can walk out at 20/21 years of age, play as a 2nd ruckman, kick 2-4 goals a game with well above average accuracy when given the opportunity, and stand up when the game is on the line at finals time as well as anyone else around him? If Pattison had done anything even vaguely similar we'd be over the moon and patting ourselves on the back for selecting him as a first round pick. If we'd picked him up in the 5th round we'd be doing cartwheels.

Hall's disposal can be ordinary (like the vast majority of players 195cm+), but in another side he would more than likely have gone on to become a very handy automatic selection backup ruckman/forward, or a better CHF than we've had during his time at the club.

Because he had the misfortune to land at Richmond, his early potential was largely ruined by being expected to do way too much too early, and by having the bad luck to be the only man remotely capable of even trying to fill a gaping hole in defense.

Worst of all, his reward for standing up and giving his all for the club in the worst of circumstances, being played out of position week after week in front of tens of thousands of people, is for 90% of Richmond supporters to have totally forgotten his outstanding early career when played in positions which suit his attributes, and to endlessly bag him because he's not the best FB going around.

It's beyond ridiculous. You almost expect relatively recent arrivals like Miller and Wallace to not understand the full history of Hall's career, but it's downright shameful for so many of our 'supporters' to not remember both ends of it and not see the radical difference.

When (and it's almost become an if) Hall returns, if he can overcome his recent injuries and finally get away from being pigeon-holed into a role in defense for which he was never suited, at 26yo he can still offer the club a lot and be a key player when we are ready to make a serious finals tilt.

If there's one senior player bar Richo we've had over recent years who deserves a shred of understanding and a crack at being part of a successful side, it's Ray Hall.

True he was not the worse bloke we have had running around but as has been mentioned when you have just seen the club effectively sack a Dual AA in Gaspar and you're Ray Hall 99 game trier and recovering from injury, one would expect him to be working hard at getting yourself right so you can get back and stake a claim that others have.

Thanks Ray you hack:thumbsu:
Good luck with finding new employment next year

I guess smart-arse, irrelevant comments are all you have when you can't contest any real facts beyond the time of day (did you make a phone call to find out?).

LMAO

Yeah, a club with Pattison (proven nothing), Graham (proven less than nothing), Polak (2-strikes, well known for going AWOL and never remotely close to proven as a key defender, CHF or ruckman), McGuane and Moore (were you watching today?), Simmonds (ageing and increasingly injury prone), Knobel (will probably never play again), Richo (ageing and played in the ruck...because he still can't kick straight), Schulz (spent more time on the sidelines than onfield and notoriously inconsistent), Hughes (not so long ago dropped to Coburg reserves for disciplinary reasons), and Reiwoldt (hasn't even played a senior game), really has the luxury of dropping a 196cm player who when fit, beats most of our woeful midfielders in athletic tests, and is our only tall who can play in all positions to an acceptable degree.

The smart money suggests that there will be half a dozen mid-size and smaller players - who have disposal skills no better than Hall's and no proven record doing anything of note - whose heads will be on the chopping block long before Rayzor.

And I'm sorry to say, he'll still be earning way more money than you've ever dreamed of next year. ;)
