Have any of you guys heard news about whether Ray is staying or going?

Has he started training yet? Do you guys still want him? Personally I'd be happy if the Cats picked him up in the PSD seeing we were going to trade pick 19 for him only two weeks ago.

i dont think he has turned up at training which is a huge worry altho i heard he maybe at uni.as for you guys picking him up this may turn in our favor as he didnt want to go to geelong.perhaps thats enough to sway his mind our way:D

cheers!

Tigers still confident on Hall

Richmond’s football director Greg Miller believes the chances of disgruntled Tiger Ray Hall relocating to Sydney are highly unlikely.

Miller has also accused the Swans, who are understood to have entered into talks with Hall, of making false promises in the past and has predicted this episode will be no different.

“I think we’ve got a very good chance of keeping him. I saw in the press today he was in Sydney, but look, the chances of him getting to Sydney I think are next to nil.”

“Sydney have made promises before they haven’t been able to keep, so we’ll see what happens,” Miller told radio station Sport927 on Wednesday.

Richmond initially intended to off-load Hall at the start of the trading period, but could not negotiate a suitable deal, despite interest from Geelong and Sydney. Hall has not re-joined his teammates at Punt Road since, where the Tigers have been training for the last fortnight.

If the young tall does not come to terms with the club he debuted for in 1999, he will nominate for the pre-season draft, potentially giving up to 13 clubs the chance to recruit him before Sydney has a selection.

“There’s a lot of clubs before Sydney and I know Geelong have got an interest and certainly we have. So he knows that. He knows all the details,” Miller said.

“I know a decision’s imminent. We’d like to keep him. We understand the situation we put him through, but at the end of the day we think it’s better for him to be back at Tigerland.”

Ironically, Miller is launching a business venture with Hall and fellow Tigers Justin Blumfield and Mark Chaffey next week, when the quartet will open a juice bar.

If Razor was disappointed that the Tigers may have under-valued him by shopping him around in the trade period, someone oughts tell him how much Sydney valued him too, considering the absolute crap they offered up for him. i.e. Matthew Nicks, Rohan Warfe, or Daniel McPherson.

not sure where you get your info from GJJ but i can assure you that McPherson retired at the swans b&f a month or so before trade week.

did we offer to throw in schwatta as a sweetener:D

as a swans supporter i agree with you guys that it was a pretty poor offer, congratulations to miller for calling our bluff

Tigers hit out at Sydney over Hall
By Stephen Rielly
November 13 2003

A combustible AFL trade period supposedly drew to a close three weeks ago, but residual acrimony quite clearly exists.

Richmond, the provocateurs of October, all but accused Sydney of being untrustworthy yesterday, a club that disgruntled Tiger Ray Hall should not trust.

After becoming aware of Hall's fleeting visit to Sydney on Tuesday, Richmond's director of football Greg Miller cautioned Hall to be wary of false Sydney assurances.

"Sydney have made promises before they haven't been able to keep, so we'll see what happens," Miller said on radio.

He also cast doubt on Hall's chances of reaching Sydney.

The Swans hold pick 13 in the pre-season draft and Miller forecast that unless Hall put a prohibitive figure on his head - a strategy he described as fraught - he would not push through until then.

Sydney coach Paul Roos was dumbfounded by the claims.

He said Sydney negotiated in good faith with Richmond by offering its first- and third-round national draft selections in exchange for Hall and pick 20, or pick 29 and players.

----

For christ sake, if we were offered a first & third round pick... why the f*ck didnt we sign? Jesus, l would've been happy only their first!

Let's be honest here though... Razor has height, which l know we need badly. But, he aint going to take us to greater places. P*ss him off and lets open up a little more space in the salary cap for Cogs next year!

Sydney get: Ray Hall and pick 20.
Richmond get: Pick 16 and pick 45.

We effectively give up Hall to move up 4 places in the draft with pick 45 thrown in as a sweetner. Hardly a great deal.

Geelong valued Hall as being worth pick 20 straight-up which is a better deal.

And we would have then had to give pick 16 to the Bulldogs, as the pick 20 we gave them would have gone to Sydney. So we would have ended up with pick 45 for Hall.

We could have gotten pick 19 from Geelong if he agreed to go. Better to let him go in the PSD and risk going to a club he doesn't want if he won't resign, than to give in to Sydney who have been getting in his ear for a couple of years.

Leaving Richmond would be a bad career move for Hall, that is the strange thing. Maybe on a personal level it might be good but it will end his career.

There are very few other clubs that have only 7 other tall players on their list. There are few clubs where a 195cm guy would be 3rd choice ruckman.

At Sydney his semi-backman, semi-defender, semi-ruckman role is very very crowded. He won't get a game in defence ahead of Bolton, Schauble and Saddington. He won't get a game up forward ahead of Hall, Davis, O'Loughlin, Roberts-Thomson, Sundqvist, Ablett and O'Keefe. He will behind Goodes, Ball, Doyle and Meiklejohn in the ruck queue. That is even before the likes of Nicks, Powell, James, Kennelly, Fosdike, Dempster or Malceski are taken into account. Their entire team is built out of Ray Halls.

At Richmond he only has to turn up to training to be in the best 22 each week.

I'm not so sure about that. After the three really tall guys, Ball, Doyle and Meiklejohn, and then LRT at 196cm, Hall would be the 5th tallest on the Swans' list. The Swans backline is quite short, and he could potentially fill in there. Is there any reason why he could not develop into a CHB?

i called this situation a disgrace and l posted it as that. Look we cannot afford to let big young guys who can play the game and who have not yet reached thier prime go....the whole handling thing ws a disgrace and it is probably the one area Miller has slipped up on. Ok let holland go and get some return but ehre is no return for letting ray hall go except him making us pay one day when he plays welll against us as he surely will

The latest update from my source is that Hall is now odds on to stay (only just). The reason is that Geelong have made contact with Hall and told him they will pick him up before the Swans, despite how much he puts on his head. He definitely does not want to go there!

The Swans have been in constant contact with Hall for some time and have offered him big bucks - about $100,000 per year more than he is currently getting. They are also relying on the fact that he is from NSW but apparently that is not the main reason for Hall to go. He really has his nose out of joint about being offered as trade bait.

We wanted Brown and Solomon.

We needed to offer something for them.

More than a quarter of our list have been sacked and there is another quarter that could follow them. Zero trade value.

Hall was about the only guy we could offer who another club would be 1. interested in and 2. could afford.

Tigers, Hall reach a stalemate

Richmond has offered disgruntled Tiger Ray Hall a one-year deal in a bid to secure the young tall, who may yet chose to nominate for the pre-season draft in December.

The Tigers are hopeful of coming to terms with Hall on Tuesday, despite initially publicising their intention to trade him in October.

Hall is eager to return to his home state, New South Wales, but his relocation would be circumvented if Geelong or Melbourne, both of which are lacking key talls, use their picks in the pre-season draft to claim him before the Sydney Swans.

Last week, Richmond football director Greg Miller said Hall’s chances of going to Sydney, which has a later selection than Melbourne and Geelong, were ‘next to nil’. But should Hall decline the Tigers’ offer, Richmond would receive no compensation for the loss of the adaptable 23-year-old.

Tigers football manager Greg Hutchison said the club was now vigorously attempting to lure Hall back, but added it was not likely to extend the length of its offer.

“It seems unlikely, but who knows? We may be able to convince him and his manager in the next day or so that the one year deal might be a good option for him,” he told afl.com.au on Monday.

“He wants a two year deal from us, we obviously offered him a one year deal. He’s come back to us via his manager that he wants a two-year deal, so we need to sit down as a group and work out what we’re going to do. That’s where it’s at really.”

Hall has not trained at Richmond at all since the players began pre-season work three weeks ago.

“He was obviously very disappointed about the fact that his name was floated around the trade time, and Greg (Miller) and he have discussed it with him and we understands how he feels. We didn’t want to put him through that, and we did. Unfortunately now we’re in a situation where we’ve got to do some solid work to get Ray back into the fold at the football club,” Hutchison said.

Melbourne will have a pick in the pre-season draft before Geelong which in turn, has a selection before the Swans. Up to 13 clubs could have a selection in the pre-season draft before Sydney.

Geelong football manager Gary Davidson said his club had not even had a formal discussion with Hall, and was not confident of its chances of securing him.

“It’s pretty well documented that we had some interest in him during the trade period and it didn’t come to be. And I guess as much as anything we’re going to be like Sydney and others in that we need to have Ray Hall nominate himself for that pre-season draft, which he hasn’t done,” Davidson said.

“If he does nominate I think he’d be the subject of discussion amongst our pre-season draft plans for sure. But at the same time, Melbourne has a pick before us, and they too are looking for taller players, so he might be an option for them.”

In a bizarre twist, Hall has entered a business partnership with Miller and Richmond players Justin Blumfield and Mark Chaffey, who will open a juice bar in East St Kilda on Thursday. But Hutchison said the stalemate between Hall and the club had not caused any great friction.

“We were down there with him yesterday to have a trial run (at the juice bar) and he’s alright. He’s amiable, he’s talking to people, so there’s no big deal there. This is a business decision for Ray Hall at the moment, and I guess ultimately it’s a business decision for us as well,” Hutchison said

D you know anything about our list?

1. Hall would be the 5th tallest on our list.
2. Jason Saddington is hardly a CHB he was recruited as a HBF or winger.
3. Craig Bolton is'nt cut out for CHB either as he is only 188 cm and 83kg.
4.Luke Ablett is 182 kg and 85 kg. Kennelly is a HBF and touted as a midfield star, 195 cm and 83kg hardly built as a ''Ray Tall''. Fosdike is a midfielder not a defender at 178 cm and 80 kg he isnt a Ray Tall either.

You dont know anything about our list keep your way of opinion to yourself.

Note : This is directed at Weaver only I have no hard feelings toward you other Tiger fans.

I doubt if Sydney would have been silly enough to offer their 1st AND 3rd round picks for Hall or that Richmond would have been silly enough to refuse it if they did.

Interesting that the media releases are now switching to the length of the contract as the sticking point rather than the bigger dollars on offer elsewhere or the desire to return to Sydney. A different day, a different reason.

If Richmond are only offering a one year contract for Hall, it means either they have some doubts about the injuries he had this year, or they have doubts that he will develop any further as a player, or they are stalling until they get an answer from Copeland.

I'm also a bit bewildered as to why they won't offer him a 2 year deal, especially given our short list.

Something's not right.

I smell a rat.

FWIW I favour the injury scenario.

I dont understand what the big deal is over losing Hall anyway. Yeah he's handy, but Christ, l couldn't give a sh*t if we lose him. What we're doing to get Copeland at the moment is exactly the same as what Sydney are doing to get Hall. It's not too dissimilar from our attempts in getting Morrison.

Now FWIW, I'd rather be spending our energy getting Bushy than Hall.
