Solved Ray "Mr Stinky" Edmonds

Just reading Andrew Rule's book called Cuckoo about Ray "Mr Stinky" Edmonds. Great read. Mr Stinky was a serial rapist in Melbourne during the 1970's & 80s. He was arrested in Albury in 1985 for indecent exposure. His fingerprints matched a set found on a car of a murdered teenage couple killed in 1966. Currently serving life without parole in Melbourne.

I remember when he was arrested and there was a lot of talk at the time about the lack of a national police database.

He is suspected of killing many more:

He is the prime suspect in at least one unsolved murder - that of Elaine Jones in Tocumwal in 1980...he confided to a fellow sex offender that he killed 'dozens' of women.

'One of those Tynong girls was only fourteen. I had to speak up...he left bodies wherever he lived. He shows no remorse and he'll never change.'

In 1989 the then Chief Commissioner, Ken Glare, received a letter from Pentridge taunting detectives about their lack of progress on Tynong North.

Certainly Edmunds knew the areas in question having worked and lived on farms at Nar Nar Goon and Officer directly in the Tynong dumping area...but he moved to NSW in April 1980 and would have had to return to Melbourne regularly to have committed the crimes (the Tynong murders). Unlikely, but possible.
