The RDFL will have its new "home ground" and offices at Diggers Rest's second oval next year. Will probably play the GF there each year and home interleague games. Could also see night footy played there too. Don't think you can have two different competition names either, would get too confusing.

Matt - How could they play next years grand final there. Not enough parking, the ground is too small and its on an incredible incline they wouldnt get the balls back in time !! I think they would have to redevelop the second ground a bit better than that . Im all for a central location but i would like to think the directors and the clubs would have a say not just because its there head office. I think there are probably about 3 or 4 teams doing some major works at there grounds to try and get the grand final in the next few years. Lets hope they pick the best ground for all concerned.

I never said the GF would be there next year. Just the RDFL will be based there. My understanding is that work will be done on that oval. It is already bigger than the Burra's ground and carparking won't necersarrily be a priority as there will be an undercover grandstand etc. Cars will be able to park around Diggers Rest's ground then walk over. Memo to all clubs: If you want the grand final you need to:

a) make your change rooms (including visitors and umpires) the best they can be;
b) provide a big social room area;
c) make sure the exterior fencing is sound so the RDFL get as much gate money as possible; and
d) put forward a good application and make sure your playing surface doesn't get bogged before round 12 of the home and away season.

Based on the above, I guess Romsey have only got option D covered:D
I don't think too many people could debate that Romsey's ground has the best surface in the league, thanks mainly to the commitment of Rob McIntyre (club legend). We seriously need better change rooms, for both home and away sides, the away rooms are a disgrace. The fact that we have the golf course that accounts for 2/3 of the area around the ground, doesn't help with the fencing issue.

The whisper going around is there is a new building on the cards for the Redbacks. A co-joined club with the Golf / Bowls club. This will take up most of the existing building and extend over where the cricket nets and netball court is at present. This will incorporate both home and away rooms, umpire rooms, social rooms and a large undercover viewing area. The lighting is also ear marked for a major uprade. We currently have the facilities in place to light the ground sufficiently, however the power company can't seem to get enough power to the light towers. At present if we turn all of the globes on the main fuse blows.

That's not a whisper. There are plans in circulation. The lighting needs to be addressed and you should be able to get money from Fed, State and Local Government if you write good applications. Would love to see night footy in the RDFL. It would be a great way to showcase some great matches.

I always have thought boardman would be a great venue due to location however not much else. Heard they are expecting major works soon maybe someone could pick me up if i,m wrong.recycled water, under cover area and works to the clubrooms.with this money being spent I would love to see the ground lenthened towards mitchells lane and a touch wider whilst the water is going in and with some tempoary fencing could see it as a major drawcard. Alot of work but most already approved over next few years from what i heard.

Exactly what Kilmore couldnt afford, Diggers to win - Kilmore season finished:(

Diggers - Riddell this week. The burra on a roll and a massive chance to topple last years premiers this week. What odds can we get Matt??

Sunbury back in winning form. Mongrel - Any reports from the game? How did the roos play?

KANGAS VS BLUES (MATCH REPORT)

it was a huge day for the kangas football club.a marquee was set up for all the past players to celebrate a milestone of 21 years.also to follow afterwards was the announcing of the clubs team of the last two decades.with many a gun player such as darko, cuffe, lee james, fogs etc in attendance the kangas were fired up 4 a big win.
the first quater was goal 4 goal, and kilmore showed that they werent about to kiss finals goodbye without one hell of a fight.the forward line of the blues looked very dangerous early with straney and salter throwing themselves at everything.the second term was very tight also but one could sense the feeling the kangas were just about to go up a gear.
after half time the mcinerny brothers and bonnicci took full command of the midfield and were running riot all over the ground.the coaching of jarrod dixon was also superb and his rotating of players kept all his players fresh and firing.matty reifell and rob scandanavia both impressed in their senior debuts.the backline was very steady all day with bobby johnson, robbie ellis and james house creating plenty of drive.helmers continued his red hot form with another great performance.
but the most pleasing thing was the newly structured forward set up.
joeb ploog was outstanding,as was dumdum and minskin.
the blues pressed hard all day but were outclassed in the end by a near full strength kangas outfit.the kicking for goal was very innaccurate by the roos which meant the result didnt reflect the game.i hope all the supporters and past players enjoyed the game and look forward to a huge challenge next week against the rebounding hawks

What a win by the burra!!!

Poor kicking let the boys down in the first 3 quarters but in gutsy fashion they come over the top of a strong opposition. IMO woodends first quarter was outstanding and are still a hot pick for the flag.

however, diggers have silenced their critics and should make finals where on the right day CAN BEAT ANY SIDE IN SEPTEMBER!!!

note:
-riddell must now play diggers and win to hold onto outright top spot.
-if sunbury can topple woodend this weekend and results fall in their favour the kangas will be back to level top spot (wont happen)! expect the hawks to be fired up!
-romsey who are still right in the mix can get on top of woodend and a big chance for top 2 given they are victorious saturday. Hav i written off kilmore for the year? yes!

OM man out!

Yes work will commence this year, Hopefully within the next month construction will commence for a verandah the width of the social rooms and about 10 meters out, to protect a good number of people from the weather.
In September, Hume coucil will be installing a fully timed irrigation system hooked up to recycled water, this should give plenty of time for the surface to improve in the off season.
On top of this within the next 3 years A netball court will be present on the reserve.
A renovation to the existing change rooms will see new male and female umpire rooms, new public toilets with disabled access.
( but it is hume council and i will only believe the last 2 when i see it)

any hope of an extra 15-20 metres on the ground. this would be a defining factor in taking it to the next level.

Who are peoples tips in all games this weekend. Is beginning to get really tight and as proved if a side is up and running any results is not a surprise!!

Diggers will play their Elimination Final on the Sunday.
I'll say it again this year!!!! No Jose, Hoare & Walshe, NO DIGGERS.

I'm not too sure, but didn't they play a sunday final last year without these boys and won.
With the form that Jose has been in the past few weeks, i'm sure they wouldn't want him not in the side.

My tips for this week are:

Bonnici to get 28 possies, two goals and for Sunbury Kangaroos to win by 11 points.
Matt Stacey to be the Hawks' best.

Lancefield to use their home ground advantage to move the ball up the wings and win by 25 points. A
nother best on from Conway for the Tigers.

Morgan to rip Kilmore's heart by taking the game by the scruff of the next and leading the Redbacks to a 40-point win.
Barton to find his best form for the Blues.

Riddell to give Diggers Rest a slight reality check with a sound, but not outstanding 24 point victory.
Belleville to teach Sims one or two things and Jose to spend much of the day hitting the ball to Bomber midfielders.

Injury depleted Cats to just go down against the Rams by 10 points.
Matt Krul to show the competition his best form.

Woodend to bounce back against Sunbury

Tigers to cement their status as the improvers with a good win over Centrals

Romsey to step up against a disappointing Kilmore

Riddell to show why they have been the measuring stick for the past few years

Rockbank to have thier biggest win in a while, 6 goals + against Macedon

Harry's Happenings are coming........... It's only Tuesday. Harry needs plenty of thinking time.:D Rest assured my loyal readers, it will be both concise and in depth (an oxymoron I know) but that's how good I am.:D

Matt, any truth to the rumour that Mick Allen pulled a faint heartstring over the previous few weeks to lengthen his odds for the league goalkicking?

Give me a one week term deposit on Allen kicking another bag against Diggers this week! :thumbsu:

I'm assuming you're talking to me BOG. Firstly, no idea about the costs but I'm sure they would be phenomenal. Secondly, I'm not sure if the league and clubs have big enough sponsors to cover it. Thirdly, the reception on Channel 31 is not good in Romsey, Lancefield, Kilmore etc. Can't comment on any other areas.

I'm sure all clubs would love to have a TV show on the RDFL, but its probably not feasible. We don't even have a weekly record yet!!!
