In my opinion, having seen all the Grand Finals that we have been involved in since 1966, a consistent deficiency that we have had in all the losing Grand Finals over that period is the lack of a dominant key forward either at full-forward and especially centre-half forward. OK. I firmly believe this is the critical deficiency again in our list at present time. That should be the focus of our recruiting right now. Comments?

Midfielders with gumption when it matters would be nice.

Not sure what more our forwards could have done today with what they were served up by the mids.

Yep I'd love one but as you well know....the great ones DON'T grow on trees and we never seem to be in the right drafting position when they're about. We got Travis Cloke and before him Rocca and Tarrant but the gun key forwards seem to end up at the expansion clubs or at Sydney just to keep them relevant. The Tiges getting Lynch and already having Jack will be pretty well placed next year eh?

Our Mids were ok to half time but when Sier tired (and Sam Mitchell gave the WC mids a serve at half time...I didn't see it but my daughter said he did on TV)...they came out really hard after half time.

Nah. They were soundly beaten from the first bounce.

Today we needed just 1 fit tall defender, of the 4 we have, just 1, why is that too much to ask?

A running half back and a consistent tall forward have been areas we have lacked the past few years.

Lynch or May would’ve been handy today.

What we need is a genuine CHF and a gun FB. We had a massive crack this year without either but it was by chance not design. Midfield is elite but a few of the senior players were shown up today for whatever reason.

Essentially, a harder draw next year and no “surprise” factor will work against us. Dunn and Goldsack are 31 and have had serious knee injuries. Scharenberg can’t be relied on. Mihocek is a great role player but both he and Cox in the same side won’t be the answer.

We risk falling away and ruining our 2018 development without recruiting 1-2 good KPPs. We copped a lesson today in the aerial aspect of footy. It would be remiss of the club to ignore what happened today.

I think consulting a witch doctor is in order. You can’t consistently lose Grannys like we do.

Some might argue we get to more than we should but geez, I’m only young and in my time we are 2-1-4 having lost 2011 off one of the most dominant seasons I’ve seen, the J Cloke fiasco and Rocca’s point on ‘02, then today after holding on for all but nine minutes.

In another reality, those results read 4-1-2 or if I’m cheeky about ‘02, 5-1-2. But then, Milne would probably argue it should be 2-0-3...

The need for KPPs has been apparent for the past 3 years. Mihocek was a good pickup but isn't elite. Need match winners at both ends.

Seems like we’ll get a good KP defender in Kelly in the draft. Moore needs to be fit and can be everything and anything we are missing. Honestly believe that. He has only just slowed growing (in height) and now it’s time to build some flexibility and strength into his limbs. He’ll come good as one of the hardest workers at the club.

I think we need more class in the midfield, we are a lot of grunt, somebody like Wells...that can play fit.

Ultimately we started the finals series with 17 players without experience...they now all have experience and will be better for the run next year.

The curse will be broken by this lot, not easy playing against the umps and the gods too.

Not a whole lot really yes every off-season you want to improve and we will but as weave seen with Adelaide etc if you do too much and try and change too much when you're only one win away it can go South

You're blessed to have a record of 2-1-4. Mine's 2-2-8, and there's probably a few on here who are running 2-2-11.

I know! You poor buggers!!!

I’d like some statistical analysis on the pure mathematical chance of us losing so many. I think there was an article a few years back that went through all the losses and assessed whether we should have even been there in the first place, I think it showed that we got to way too many GFs considering our H&A record in those seasons.

It’s cold consolation to think that our poor record in GFs is a symptom of our team overachieving consistently just to get there in the first place!

But there's upside there with Sier and DeGoey
Desperately need a couple of bookends.

De gooey is a gun forward and really our no 1 forward target. Move him into the middle at who’s expense?

And who goes forward to be our no.1 forward?

Moore needed to play. Had to risk him

We did great to make it but the stars aligned somewhat. We were pretty underwhelming in the home and away against the other 7 top 8 teams. All up we won 3 of 12 games v them while winning 14 of 14 games v the bottom 10. We had no slip ups like other teams versus the lower ranked teams. That’s not a bad thing by any stretch. But our shortcomings v the good teams show we have work to do. If we have a similar record next season with a far tougher draw, we won’t likely figure in the finals.
Of the teams we beat we benefitted from playing the tigers after they had hardly any games for many weeks. They looked stale. GWS with a full strength team would, in my view, have been better than WC. Melbourne, well they are Melbourne.
