Get used to the new Hawthorn

-Mitchell (20), Osborne (21), Brown (19), Hodge (19), Williams (20)

All hard working, couragous, exciting young prospects.
All should play at Hawthorn for many years to come

Who do we have next?
Hay (24), Thompson (25).

Then who?
Smith (26), Rawlings (26), Vandenburg (26), Dixon (26)

Lekkas (27), Barker (28), Holland (29), Crawford (29), Everitt (29)
Graham (30), Barlow (30).

Hawks have only 3 senior players between the ages of 21 - 25!

Add 3 years on to the ages of the senior players? You find out that the Hawks have an ageing list and if they were ever going to make the finals let alone win a flag, it would be now.

This list will only get slower and more injury prone with age.

Something has to be done! Rebuild now!

Who is going to help Hodge and Mitchell win the flag in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009?

With this list we can't even make the finals in 2002, 2003!

Trade them all for Brendan Goddard, Chris Judd, Daniel Wells, Jonathon Brown and draft picks!

Lets go Hawthorn, lets go!!!

I've said for awhile that the dearth we have in the players of the 40-80 game range is going to hurt us in future.

Were behind the eight-ball to an extent but there is promise (as you named) coming through.

Dont need to be over hasty but must get some quality KP depth into the club for the next two to three years to come through.

Changes still need to be made off-season. What who and how is the questions that remain to be answered.

Ever heard of a small thing called the sallery cap???

Very easy in theory to do what you wrote but then the real world sets in.

That should be on top of our agenda!!! I said last year that i think we needed to chase Kaane Jhonson and i had some good sources who said that we were fairly close to getting him.
As it falls and at the time we realy needed a ruckman, but im sure we could have delt away some players (Graham,Tallis,Lonie and Draft picks) for Kane the guy would have suited our Midfield to a tee.

We need a new coach, to bring in a CHB!!!! Schwab wont make any hard decisions!!!

Yes, let's get a new coach, who will draft a 17 year old CHB, who will immediately be a star, and all our problems are solved.

Now where are those pills......

You probably have no idea:D :D :D

When we had a chance to get a KPP player in thsi year draft we declined it didnt we??? instead we selected Luke Brennan.
We could have got any of the 3 KPP such as Hamish Mcintosh,Paul Jhonson or Jay Schultz!!!! Sure they all might not have made there debut but they would be ready enough physically to do so.

Cheers superstar ;)

Well tige the thing is that Brennan is a natural CHB. In the Bizzell mould in that he isn't overly tall (188 i think) but has an awesome leap and a strong pair of hands.

Agree with you, would have preferred McIntosh, but he is a forward/ruckman. COuld never play CHB, Johnson too. On Schulz, Schammer, Bell etc it is my opinion that we never would have drafted them regardless, simply because they are interstate born and bred. We have a terrible recent history of retaining interstate players, (Chick, McPharlin and earlier Jarman, Allen, Hall)

Similarly, we were a heartbeat from losing Hay back to WA as a 19 yr old if i'm not mistaken.

Either way, agree with the sentiments, tough decisions need to be made.

Jonathan "The Guvna" Brown isn't going anywhere. Hawthorn would be dreaming if they thought they could get him. He is a lion through and through. Fitzroy connection and wants to sign long term. All Australian CHF in a few years. Next year he will be if he stays injury free. The Guvna could be a future captain of Brisbane.

Well none of the others on that list are going anywhere either.

How about we trade Nick Stone for Leppa? Reckon the Lions would go for that?

I reckon you have lost your head

Listen mate you asked if you think Brisbane would go for a trade including Leppistch going to Hawthorn in exchange for Nick Stone, clearly Brisbane wouldnt.
How much do i have to read into it??? it is one of the dumbest things anyone could think off.
Would you trade Jade Rawlings for say Patrick Wiggins from the Bulldogs???.
That is how far fetched your statement was.
Go and and post it on the Brisbane board and make your self look like a complete tool, im sure you would give some Brisbane supporters something to have a abit of a laugh at.

Read the whole post fella. I replied to Special Bruce who said Jonathon Brown is unavailable. I said yeah, well everyone else who was named would be unavailable as well. The Stone-Leppa thing was a tongue in cheek suggestion in response to all the other stupid suggestions, ie get Brown, Judd et al.

Fair call

Hawks are getting too old

Thankyou for all the brilliant football minds that pointed out that Judd, Goddard, Jonathon Brown etc aren't going anywhere!

I thought it was obvious that there was never a serious consideration that these players would be available.

Simply, Hawthorn needs to rebuild it's team by trading middle tier players for decent draft picks. There are a few 'untouchables' notably Crawford, Everitt, Rawlings, Thompson, Vandenburg, Lekkas, Hodge, Mitchell.

Most others should be looked at. Surely someone (Bulldogs, Geelong, Carlton etc) would be interested in players like Tallis, Harford (yes I know he's contracted), Dixon, Cox, McCabe etc.

Remember that we havent made the finals for 2 years running!
What should we do? Wait for our underachieving, ageing list to
dissappoint us again? The older players get, the more prone to injury (Holland, Barker, Everitt).

Yes we have played a few good games (beating Sydney, Collingwood, Fremantle etc) but whenever we play Brisbane and Essendon we get thoroughly belted.

We lose to bloody St Kilda and Geelong!

The point of 'rebuild now' was that we have a lack of 21yr - 25 yr old players in the Hawk lineup.

TRADE SOME PLAYERS WHILST THEY STILL HAVE SOME VALUE (UNLIKE HOLLAND, GRAHAM)

AND PLEASE HAWTHORN, DON'T RECRUIT ANOTHER BULLDOG DUD!

Why? Why would or should they be interested when we're not? If we are rebuilding and going for the kids then surely teams even poorer than ourselves would be even more beneficial to go for long term success than drafting players from other clubs such as ours blokes that are only going to be 'stop-gaps'.

I'm only pointing this out to show that you cannot get quality unless you give quality. The players you named (probably Dixon aside) you would get... not much for. All solid enough foot soldiers but none of them command a regular game on name alone in a mid-table (i.e us) side.

We don't have the depth to trade any quality either as we have been p-poor in our recent willingness to give up so much for so little (yea.. my hobby horse for those in the know) in the way of over-the-hill ruckmen.

We've put ourselves behind the eight-ball with short term recruiting that hasn't paid off whichever way you look at it.

I think it's quite safe to say our best and only hope for future success is to continue down the path of getting quality kids in through the draft. It may take awhile but we cannot (unfortunately) think we are going to be getting any high draft picks with what we have to trade with. Others are in the same boat as us and wont be giving up their picks for the exact same reasons.

High draft picks can make it easier but they're not the be all to end all either. Good planning and good scouting can help pick the right mix from what would be considered poor picks.
