Just wanted to know everyonesthoughts on this kinda set-up, im in a $40,000 garunteed tourney right now with 1000 entrants, $20 buy-in, however for the first hour there is unlimited rebuys. I know why this is, to build up the prize pool obviously, but for thoes of us who only want to buy-in once, its like dodging landmines, people who are going to rebuy are going all in on their draws, Im 15m in and already had 1 guy rebuy 3 times on my table and another buy-in twice, cant wait for rebuy to finish (after first hour and hopefully I'll still be here) .

I hate them.

The game is about survival, not who has the least brain cells to keep rebuying.

I dont mind them. Yeah they are an idiot fest for the first 30 minutes or so. I useally, if i am going to go into a rebuy tourney with enough to buy in twice over the first hour. Just for that fact that i play my strong hands regardless how many go all in, have plenty of times doubled and tripled up once or twice in the first hour and puts you well placed for the rest of the tourney after all the clowns are long gone.

I personally wouldn't know how to deal with rebuys and addons so for the time being I don't concern myself with them. When I get more experienced, I'll invest more time into RB/AO strategy. Phil Gordon, in his first book, Poker: The Real Deal, wrote on page 192:

"Daniel Negreanu entered the 2004 WSOP $1000 buy-in NLHE tournament - an event that allows rebuys - on a mission. After only two hours he had made twenty-seven rebuys! In other words his entry fee into the tournament was $27,000. To have any hope to recoup his investment, he had to finish no worse than eighth, no easy feat given a field of around 800 players. As it turned out, Daniel clearly knew what he was doing. He finished third - good for over $80,000 - and a tidy $53,000 profit."

I have researched the event and will have to correct Phil on the numbers.
Entries: 538
Rebuys: 534
Daniel's rebuys: 27 (that is, he outlayed $28,000)
He did need to finish 8th or better to turn a profit.
He was chip leader for a good part of the final table. He did finish 3rd, but it actually paid $100,940.
While the event write-up says he won $88,320, that was what Paul Phillips got for fourth place.
Daniel's profit was actually $72,940, which was a little worse than what 5th paid.

Negreanu's reaction: “Third sucks,” said NEGREANU afterward in reference to coming in third. “I always play to win. But I feel that I played well. I don’t think I got outplayed – I got out-carded.”

When asked about investing $28,000 in this tournament (with multiple re-buys) – which “unofficially” may be the largest number of re-buys ever recorded by a single individual in a major tournament -- NEGREANU retorted that he expected profit. “All those people were laughing at me in the beginning – what an idiot! What an idiot! Well, they all lost two or three thousand. Well, I made $70-something thousand and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that.”

Rebuys are fine. Usually when I get big hands early in a tournament, I'm more conservative with them, but with the rebuy I don't need to be, until I have to rebuy. That doesn't mean I'm playing with a "nothing to lose" mentality, but I'll certainly be more aggressive early on knowing that if I bust, I get another shot at it, and can revert back to my conservative play until I build a stack.

Sorry for late reply it was PokerRoom, I only play there due to their Crown Qualifiers, however theyve been rather frustrating of late. Id be interested in playing elsewhere actually.
