Hi guys,

Just wondering how one would go about recording digital channels with a DVD Recorder?

I've got one of those dual DVD/VCR recorders which is probably about a few years old. I've got it plugged into my LCD TV atm, but it can only record the analogue channels and not the digital ones.

Is there anyway I can get the recorder to record the SD channels? I specificly want to record a show tomorrow in wide-screen, if possible.

Only one company that does DVD recorder/VCR have thrown an SD-digital tuner in it, and that was Panasonic with their DMR-EZ47 and EZ48 models.

If its a few years old, it won't have a digital tuner.

Here's some things you can do...

1. Get a separate SD set top box and connect it to the recorder. But when you're recording from the box, you can't change the channel on it.

2. Use the AV-out to lead the signal to the recorder. But again, you can't change the channel on the TV and it won't send out the HD picture.

3. Get yourself a new recorder. DVD recorders are still best because of the ability to make hard copies of stuff and you can get ones with hard drives and they now pretty much come standard with an SD tuner. To be sure, look for the 'DVB' badge on the unit.

Myer is doing a good deal on an LG recorder ATM, which has a 160Gb hard drive and an SD-Digital tuner so it won't be useless once after three years when they finally switch analogue TV off. Its priced normally at about $370, but at the time this went on the thread they were doing it for $300.
