Wasn't sure where to put this thread, but GD will do just fine, hopefully (the Lifestyle Board doesn't have enough posters!).
I'm looking for tips for recovery re. sport, running, gym work, etc. Obviously stretching plays a big role in minimising any stiff muscles or hot spots 24 hours later, but often enough I end up pulling up sore in a certain muscle (calves, groins, but not so much the hammys). It's not a good feeling, waking up the next morning to realise you're aching way more than you anticipated.
The more activity you do, the less of a problem it becomes (theoretically); I've certainly noticed this over time. But it would be great to keep improving and keep finding ways to help keep the body feeling 100% no matter the situation.
I've often wondered how important rehydration is in this context. Having no background in sport science, does this play any role? Specifically, have you found that the likes of Powerade and Gaterade actually improve your recovery (including energy levels immediately after exercise) quicker than just water?
It'd be far more beneficial, I'm sure, to turn up to the beach every morning and have a dip in the ocean to look after the muscles. Then again, not all of us play in the AFL.
Similarly (not related to any specific areas of recovery), for those who play sport, or try to keep fit, how important do you find maintaining a good balance of sleep each night, and on the night before you play or train? Do you find it makes much of a difference? How important is it in your recovery?
Interested to hear the thoughts of others. Hopefully this is in the right spot. Thanks.
