Can anybody tell me our recruiting staff along with our list manager?
Good list managers include former Carlton champ Ken Sheldon (St Kilda) and Craig Cameron (Melbourne).

I don't think Carlton have a full time list manager but Grant Williams does it under his poition as football manager. Wayne Hughues is recrutining manager and somebody with thenickname "Stoog" is head scout.(Sorry i do not know his real name). Shane O'sullivan also still works there as player welfare manager.

Shane O'Sullivan and recruiting should not be put in the same sentence here mate. The guy is a dud of the highest order. :thumbsd:

The reason why I raise the point about list managers is that our playing list has been managed absolutely terribly over the past five years!!!! Letting a genuine good developing ruckman in Porter go for McKernan was the biggest recruiting mistake I have seen the club make!!! And he left with minimum impact after those 2 years. Geelong have done the same with Ottens, they gave away one of their promising young midfielders in Brent Moloney now at Melbourne for him. Brittain thought just as Thompson did, in that we need a big forward that can kick 50 plus goals. Did McKernan do that??? No. Has Ottens done that?? No. Both Ottens and McKernan are ruckmen not big, goalkicking key forwards. That smartest thing to do would've been to target a genuine Key-Position Prospect. For example, trying to lure Brisbane forward/defender Daniel Bradshaw who was 23 going on 24 and he would've been a far better prospect than an All-Australian ruckman in McKernan. this is just one example of poor list management.

Another example is the Scott Camporeale case at the end of 2005. Contract negociations went on and on for a week with Campo eventually deciding to walk into the PSD because he didn't get the deal that he should've got and was asking for. Instead, we decided to be arrogant and deny Essendon any chance of getting him during trade week but he went to Bomberland via the PSD. I believe we should've traded Campo for Ted Richards who could've really helped us out down back and on occasions up forward. Instead he went to the Swans, played in their losing GF side and was close to best afield. Was one of the Sydney's best on the day.

And that nearly evantualated with the Thornton and Russell case but I'm now glad that it didn't. I am now over the moon because THORNTON HAS JUST SIGNED A NEW 3-YEAR DEAL!!!! WOO-HOO!!!!! YEAH!!!! AWESOME!!!!

But getting back to the point of list managers. I believe that our list management is pethetic!!! It's a disgrace!! I want the club to review the Recruitment and appoint a brand new list of recruitment staff. A list manager is high on the agenda - blokes like Steven Ike (Fremantle), Craig Cameron (Melbourne) and Ken Sheldon (St Kilda). Ike played a big part in getting Chris Tarrant and Dean Solomon to Freo, exchange of picks between Richmond, Fremantle, Collingwood and Essendon and also Graham Polak to Richmond. Craig Cameron on the other hand, made some significant decisions during trade week for Melbourne. He held talks with a few clubs over possible trades regarding the following players at Melbourne: Ryan Ferguson, Clint Bizzell and Paul Wheatley. Interim list manager for St Kilda Ken Sheldon also made some big decisions involving the West Coast Eagles and the Western Bulldogs. he successfully brought over high-profile ballwinning midfielder Shane Birss from the Bulldogs and also controversial ruckman Michael Gardiner.

All of these list managers successfully managed their club's lists well without any and/or many complications.

A message to Carlton - WE NEED A GOOD LIST MANAGER. OUR RECRUITING STAFF NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT. SERIOUSLY REVIEW THIS!!!!!

Richards refused to come to Carlton. Got to play in a Grand Final so you can't really argue with that.

I don't think we can afford a list manager.

I should point out HBF that his position is Player welfare manager and thankfully he has nothing to do with recruiting.;)

That balance of off-field and on-field success is just so vital in a successful winning team. We have not a bad on-field team but off-field really needs a serious look at. I don't think the current board is going to take us places. I understand why Smorgan is doing this Youth Policy (no player over 24 will be recruited) for. I mean, we may not have much of a choice with who to choose in PSD at pick 1 now. We need a ruckman and the only ruckman that I know that is decent enough is Clark Keating who is 29, 30 years old.

Our whole Football Department needs a whole turnover. We must defiently need a new board and a president/chairman that will push the club in the right direction also making the right decisions as well. Not sure about the CEO Michael Malouf though. Grant Williams isn't a bad Football Manager but I would've liked a Geoff Walsh (former Kangaroos CEO and Football manager and he has recently been appointed as Collingwood's Chief of Football).
I can't stress enough about our Football Department.

Historically (late 90's / early 00's) our list management was bad, but I am not sure how people can whinge now. The last 2/3 years has been pretty good in regards to the list. Some duds yes, but some good kids.

As far as McKernan and Porter goes, I think we actually ended up winnig. At least McKernan gave use something, while Porter gave the Roos nothing.

It can always be improved though.

People overrate trade week and what can be achieved in it. To get anything of value you need you need to give up something of equal value.
